इदं चान्यत्त्व शुभे शिरसो रोगदं मम २५.
'And, O auspicious one, there is another thing: I have a disease of the head.'
वामः कामो मनुष्येषु सत्यमेतद्वचो यतः २५.
'Desire is fickle among humans; this statement is indeed true.'
अविज्ञातान्वयो नग्नः शूली भूतगणाधिपः २५.
'His lineage is unknown, he is naked, carries a trident, and is the lord of the hosts of spirits.'
गजाजिनो द्विजिह्वाद्यलंकृतांगो जटाधरः २५.
'He wears an elephant hide, is adorned with serpents, and bears matted hair.'
गुणा ये कुलशीलाद्य वराणामुदिता बुधैः २५.
'The virtues of noble families, character, and so on, praised by the wise—'
शोचनीयतमा पूर्वमासीत्पार्वति कौमुदी २५.
'Formerly, O Pārvatī, you were most pitiable, like the moonlight.'
तपोधनाः सर्वसमा वयं यद्यपि पार्वति २५.
'Though we are all ascetics and equal in age, O Pārvatī—'
वृषभारोहणं वासः श्मशाने पाणिसंग्रहः २५.
'His vehicle is a bull, his dwelling is the cremation ground, and he takes hands in marriage there.'
जनहास्यकरं सर्वं त्वयारब्धमसांप्रतम् २५.
'All that you have undertaken now is a cause for ridicule among people.'
निवर्तय मनस्तस्मादस्मात्सर्वविरोधिनः २५.
'Turn your mind away, therefore, from this, which is opposed by all.'
विरुद्धवादिनं चैवं ब्रह्मचारिणमीश्वरम् २५.
Thus, one who opposes in argument, who is a celibate, and who is the Lord—
मा मा ब्राह्मण भाषिष्ठा विरुद्धमिति शंकरे २५.
"O Brāhmaṇa, do not speak in opposition to Śaṃkara in this way."
न सम्यगभिजानासि तस्य देवस्य चेष्टितम् २५.
You do not truly understand the actions of that god.
स आदिः सर्वजगतां कोस्य वेदान्वयं ततः २५.
He is the origin of all worlds; from him comes the lineage of the Vedas.
गुणत्रयमयं शूलं शूली यस्माद्बिभार्ते सः २५.
He bears the trident composed of the three guṇas, therefore he is called the Trident-bearer.
श्मशानं चापि संसारस्तद्वासी कृपयार्थिनाम् २५.
The cremation ground is indeed the world of transmigration, and he dwells there for the sake of those who seek compassion.
वृषो धर्म इति प्रोक्तस्तमारूढस्ततो वृषी २५.
The bull is said to be Dharma; mounted upon it, he is thus called Vṛṣī.
नानाविधाः कर्मयोगा जटारूपा बिभर्ति सः २५.
He assumes the form with matted hair and bears the various kinds of karmic paths.
भस्मीकरोति तद्देवस्त्रिपुरध्नस्ततः स्मृतः २५.
That god reduces to ashes; therefore, he is remembered as the destroyer of the three cities.
कथंकारं हि ते नाम भजंते नैव तं हरम् २५.
How is it that people do not worship that Hara, even while uttering his name?
विमृश्य कुर्वते सर्वं विमृश्यैतन्मया कृतम् २५.
All the wise act after reflection; this too has been done by me after reflection.
इति ब्रुवंत्यां तस्यां तु किंचित्प्रस्फुरिताधरम् २५.
As she was speaking thus, her lower lip trembled slightly.
वार्यतामिति विप्रोऽयं महद्दूषणबाषकः २५.
"Let this Brāhmaṇa be restrained; he is uttering great slander."
अथ वा किं च नः कार्यं वादेन सह ब्राह्मणैः २५.
Or else, what need have we for debate with Brāhmaṇas?
इत्युक्त्वोत्थाय गच्छंत्यां पिधाय श्रवणावुभौ २५.
Having said this, as she rose to go, she covered both her ears.
ततो निरीक्ष्य तं देवं संभ्रांता परमेश्वरी २५.
Then, seeing that god, the supreme goddess became agitated.
प्राह तां च महादेवो दासोऽस्मि तव शोभने २५.
Mahādeva said to her, "O beautiful one, I am your servant."
मनसस्त्वं प्रभुः शंभो दत्तं तच्च मया तव २५.
O Śambhu, you are the lord of the mind; what was given by me is yours.
पित्रा हि ते परिज्ञातं दृष्ट्वा त्वां रूपशालिनीम् २५.
Your father recognized you, seeing your radiant form.
तत्तस्य सर्वमेवास्तु वचनं त्वं हिमाचलम् २५.
Let all his words be fulfilled; you, Himalaya, must act accordingly.
