यस्मिन्गिरीशे संदृष्टे मेनातुहिनभूभृतोः
On seeing this lord of mountains, Menā and Himavān are beheld.
तरुपल्लवलक्षेण लक्ष्यमाणजटाधरः
With hair marked by trees and creepers, he is recognized by his matted locks.
ज्योतिष्मत्तोयशृंगस्य द्विपार्श्वस्थेन्दुभास्करः
On both sides of the radiant peak, the moon and sun are present.
वर्षासु शिखराधस्तादभिनीलबलाहकः
During the rainy seasons, beneath the summit, there are intensely dark clouds.
सहस्रपादः साहस्रशीर्षो यः पर्वतेश्वरः
This lord of mountains has a thousand feet and a thousand heads.
शिरोलीनामरसरित्स्रोताः प्रागिति नाद्भुतम्
It is not surprising that the streams of rivers disappear into his head.
आसादितापकटकः शारदैर्यः पयोधरैः
He is reached by autumnal clouds, which form a girdle around him.
यत्र शृङ्गाग्रसंलग्रसंलग्ननीललोहितः 1.3.2.4.
Where, clinging to the tips of his peaks, are blue and red hues.
सुदुर्गमत्वादुग्रत्वमपि धत्ते न नामतः
Because of its extreme difficulty to access, it possesses fierceness, but not in name.
तक्षकानंतसर्पाद्यैः स्पर्धन्ते भुजगेश्वरैः
With Takṣaka, Ananta, and other serpents, the lords of snakes contend.
सुस्पष्टं विशिनष्टीव स्वकीयामष्टमूर्तिताम्
It clearly manifests its own eightfold form.
शिवस्य शृङ्गतो मध्ये सुषुम्ना कमलापगा
In the middle of Śiva’s peak flows the Suṣumnā, the lotus-river.
कोलहंसाकृती नालं ब्रह्मविष्णू बभूवतुः
Brahma and Vishnu assumed the forms of a swan and a boar, respectively.
अरुणाचलनाथाख्यं प्रपन्नः प्रमदैः समम्

तप्त्वा तपांसि तीव्राणि साक्षाच्चक्रे सदाशिवम्
He performed intense austerities and directly beheld Sadashiva.
अलब्ध वामदेहार्द्धं मन्मथारेः प्रसेदुषः
He could not obtain the left half of the body of the gracious enemy of Manmatha.
लिंगं भोगप्रदं पुंसां कैवल्याय प्रकल्पते
The linga, bestower of enjoyment to men, is established for liberation.
साक्षाद्भूय सतां दत्ते मन्त्रसिद्धिमविघ्नतः 1.3.2.4.
It directly grants to the virtuous the accomplishment of mantra without obstacle.
सकृन्निमज्जनान्नॄणां पंचपातकनाशनम्
By a single immersion, it destroys the five great sins of people.
सकृत्प्रणाममात्रेण सर्वपापप्रणाशनम्
By merely one act of reverent salutation, it destroys all sins.
पुनस्तद्भक्तिमाहात्म्याच्छिवसायुज्यमाप्तवान्
Again, through the greatness of that devotion, he attained union with Shiva.
विद्याधरेश्वरौ मुक्तौ दुर्वासःशापबन्धनात्
The two lords of the Vidyadharas were liberated from the bondage of Durvasa's curse.
नास्ति माहेश्वराद्धर्मो नास्ति देवो महेश्वरात्
There is no righteousness greater than that from Maheshvara; there is no god greater than Maheshvara.
नास्ति शैवाग्रणीर्विष्णोर्नास्ति रक्षा विभूतितः
There is no supreme Shaiva leader in Vishnu; there is no protection from his powers.
नास्ति रुद्राक्षतो भूषा नास्ति शास्त्रं शिवागमात्
There is no ornament greater than rudraksha; there is no scripture greater than the Shiva Agama.
नास्ति वैराग्यतः सौख्यं नास्ति मुक्तेः परं पदम्
There is no happiness greater than detachment; there is no state higher than liberation.
ते निवासा गिरिव्याप्ताः सोऽयं तु गिरिशः स्वयम्
Their abodes are spread throughout the mountains; and this is indeed the Lord of the Mountain himself.
इति वदति शिलादनंदने मुदितमनाः स मृकण्डुनंदनः ।। 1.3.2.4.
Thus, with a joyful heart, the son of Mrikandu spoke to the delighted son of Shilada.
किं किं नृणां कर्म भवाय जायते कथं नु तत्तन्नरकाय श्रूयते
What actions of people lead to well-being, and how are various hells heard of as resulting from them?
रजस्तमोगुणोपेता भवंति सुलभा नराः
People endowed with the qualities of passion and darkness are easily found.
