मृगाः सर्वेपि सततं चरंतो यत्र सानुषु
All the animals constantly roam upon its slopes.
यस्य पादांतिकचरैः प्रायेण शबरैरपि
Near its base, even the Śabaras are commonly found.
किं बहूक्त्याभ्यसूयंते द्वैमातुरकुमारयोः
Why speak at length? Even the sons of two mothers are envious of those there.
सिंहव्याघ्रद्विपा यस्मिन्काले त्यक्तकलेवराः
There, lions, tigers, and elephants have abandoned their bodies.
अस्य भास्करनामाद्रिः पूर्वस्यां दिशि दृश्यते
In the eastern direction, there is seen a mountain named Bhāskara.
प्रतीच्यां दिशि दंडाद्रिरिति कश्चिन्महीधरः
In the western direction, there is a certain great mountain called Daṇḍa.
दक्षिणस्यां च शोणाद्रेरद्रिरस्त्यमराचलः
And to the south of Śoṇa mountain, there is the mountain Amarācala.
उत्तरेऽस्मिन्हरिद्भागे सिद्धाध्यासितकन्दरः 1.3.2.4.
In the northern part here, whose caves are inhabited by perfected beings.
तत्पर्यंतप्रभूतानामन्येषामपि भूभृताम्
There are many other mountains as well, abundant at its farthest limits.
धारिता येन सततं सर्वेपि धरणीरुहाः
By whom all the trees are always supported.
यस्मिन्गिरीशे संदृष्टे मेनातुहिनभूभृतोः
On seeing this lord of mountains, Menā and Himavān are beheld.
तरुपल्लवलक्षेण लक्ष्यमाणजटाधरः
With hair marked by trees and creepers, he is recognized by his matted locks.
ज्योतिष्मत्तोयशृंगस्य द्विपार्श्वस्थेन्दुभास्करः
On both sides of the radiant peak, the moon and sun are present.
वर्षासु शिखराधस्तादभिनीलबलाहकः
During the rainy seasons, beneath the summit, there are intensely dark clouds.
सहस्रपादः साहस्रशीर्षो यः पर्वतेश्वरः
This lord of mountains has a thousand feet and a thousand heads.
शिरोलीनामरसरित्स्रोताः प्रागिति नाद्भुतम्
It is not surprising that the streams of rivers disappear into his head.
आसादितापकटकः शारदैर्यः पयोधरैः
He is reached by autumnal clouds, which form a girdle around him.
यत्र शृङ्गाग्रसंलग्रसंलग्ननीललोहितः 1.3.2.4.
Where, clinging to the tips of his peaks, are blue and red hues.
सुदुर्गमत्वादुग्रत्वमपि धत्ते न नामतः
Because of its extreme difficulty to access, it possesses fierceness, but not in name.
तक्षकानंतसर्पाद्यैः स्पर्धन्ते भुजगेश्वरैः
With Takṣaka, Ananta, and other serpents, the lords of snakes contend.
सुस्पष्टं विशिनष्टीव स्वकीयामष्टमूर्तिताम्
It clearly manifests its own eightfold form.
शिवस्य शृङ्गतो मध्ये सुषुम्ना कमलापगा
In the middle of Śiva’s peak flows the Suṣumnā, the lotus-river.
कोलहंसाकृती नालं ब्रह्मविष्णू बभूवतुः
Brahma and Vishnu assumed the forms of a swan and a boar, respectively.
अरुणाचलनाथाख्यं प्रपन्नः प्रमदैः समम्
He, together with his beloveds, approached the one known as the Lord of Arunachala.
तप्त्वा तपांसि तीव्राणि साक्षाच्चक्रे सदाशिवम्

सकृन्निमज्जनान्नॄणां पंचपातकनाशनम्
By a single immersion, it destroys the five great sins of people.
सकृत्प्रणाममात्रेण सर्वपापप्रणाशनम्
By merely one act of reverent salutation, it destroys all sins.
