तस्मिन्प्रतिहते चास्त्रे पावकास्त्रं व्यजृंभत २१.
When that weapon was repelled, the fire-weapon was manifested.
तः प्रतिहतास्त्रोऽसौ दैत्येंद्रः प्रतिभानवान् २१.
Then that Daitya lord, possessed of intelligence, had his weapon repelled.
ततो जलधरैर्व्योम स्फुरद्विद्युल्लताकुलैः २१.
Then the sky was filled with clouds, teeming with flashes of lightning.
करींद्रकरतुल्याभिर्धाराभिः पूरितं जगत् २१.
The world was inundated by streams as mighty as the trunks of elephants.
वायव्यमस्त्रमतुलं तेन मेघा ययुः क्षयम् २१.
By means of an incomparable wind weapon, the clouds were dispersed.
बभूवानाविलं व्योम नीलोत्पलदलप्रभम् २१.
The sky became clear, shining like the petals of a blue lotus.
न शेकुस्तत्र ते स्थातुं रणेऽपि बलिनोऽपि ये २१.
Even those who were strong could not remain there in battle.
मारुतप्रतिघातार्थं दानवानां बलाधिपः २१.
The lord of the demon armies acted to counter the force of the wind.
ततः प्रशमिते वायौ दैत्येंद्र पर्वताकृतौ २१.
Then, when the wind was subdued, the demon king took the form of a mountain.
तयाशन्या पतितया दैत्यस्याच लरूपिणः २१.
When that thunderbolt struck, the demon assumed a monstrous shape.
ततः सा दानवेंद्रस्य शैलमाया न्यवर्तत २१.
Then the mountain illusion of the demon king was dispelled.
बभूव कुंजरो भीमो महाशैलमयाकृतिः २१.
He became a fearsome elephant, with a body as massive as a great mountain.
बभंज पृष्ठतः कांश्चित्करेणाकृष्य दानवः २१.
The demon broke some from behind, seizing them with his trunk.
अस्त्रं त्रैलोक्यदुर्धर्षं नारसिंहं मुमोच ह २१.
He released the Narasimha weapon, formidable throughout the three worlds.
हृष्टदंष्ट्राट्टहासानि क्रकचाभनखानि च २१.
It had gleaming fangs, roaring laughter, and claws resembling saws.
ततश्चाशीविषो घोरोऽभवत्फणसमाकुलः २१.
Then a terrifying serpent appeared, its hood crowded with many heads.
ततोऽस्त्रं गारुडं चक्रे शक्रः संप्रहरन्रॅणे २१.
Indra, fighting in battle, employed the Garuda weapon.
तैर्गरुत्मद्भिरासाद्य जंभं भुजगरूपिणम् २१.
With those Garuda-powered missiles, he attacked Jambha, who had taken the form of a serpent.
मायायाम च प्रनष्टायां ततो जंभो महासुरः २१.
When the illusion was destroyed, Jambha, the great demon, remained.
विवृत्तनयनो ग्रस्तुमियेष सुरपुंगवान् २१.
With eyes wide open, he sought to devour the foremost of the gods.
सुरसेनाऽभवद्भीमं पातालोत्तालतालुकम् २१.
The Surasena region became terrifying, like the depths of the underworld.
शक्रो दीनत्वमापन्नः श्रांतवाहनवाहनः २१.
Indra became dejected, his vehicle exhausted from bearing him.
किमनंतरमेवास्ति कर्तव्यं नो विशेषतः २१.
What should be done next? There is nothing special to be done.
ततो हरिरुवाचेदं वज्रायुधमुदारधीः २१.
Then Hari, the noble-minded, spoke these words to the wielder of the thunderbolt.
मा गच्छ मोहं मा गच्छ क्षिप्रमस्त्रं स्मर प्रभो २१.
Do not fall into delusion, do not falter; quickly recall your weapon, O Lord.
एतस्मिन्नंतरे दैत्यो विवृतास्योऽग्रसत्क्षणात् २१.
At that moment, the demon, with mouth wide open, advanced instantly.
ततो नारायणास्त्रं च निपपातास्य वक्षसि २१.
Then the Narayana weapon fell upon his chest.
ततः स्वतेजसा रूपं तस्य दैत्यस्य नाशितंम् २१.
Thereupon, by its own brilliance, the form of that demon was destroyed.
गगनस्थः स दैत्येन्द्रः शस्त्राशनिमतींद्रियः २१.
That lord of demons, standing in the sky, possessed weapons, thunderbolts, and mighty senses.
तथा परश्वधांश्चक्रवज्रबाणान्समुद्गरान् २१.
