Then, abandoning the skull-bearer, the foremost of demons attacked Bhava, crushing him with blows from his feet, his teeth, and his hands.
Then, when he was wearied by battle with the trident,
He began to whirl the elephant-demon with great speed.
In that battle, he became dispirited, and the celebration of war ceased.
Blood flowed from all his limbs, staining his own garments.
They said to him, 'Whoever kills him, he will die as well;' and so he,
They were terrified, fled, struck out, and fell by the thousands.
Mounting a maddened elephant, resounding with a hundred drums,
Wherever the elephant-demon went, in every direction, the armies followed with their vehicles.
Scenting him, the divine elephants fled from that beast.
He stood together with the eight guardians of the directions and with Keśava.
Then the elephant of Indra, terrified, let out a most dreadful roar.
As that elephant fled, Indra, the lord of the gods, was still mounted upon it.
Śatakratu struck Nimi in the chest with his trident.
Unshaken by the blow, Nimi stood firm, fearless and resolute.
Then, in the battle, Indra's elephant was slain by a mace.
Then, due to his lightness, the great elephant of the gods quickly rose up.
After that, a harsh wind blew, laden with much sand and gravel; the mountain appeared blood-soaked, like a lake of dense ore.
The Lord of Wealth also took up his heavy mace against the elephant of the demon.
Struck by that mace, the elephant was rendered unconscious.
When that elephant fell, a great lion-roar arose.
There was the neighing of horses and the thunderous sounds of bowmen in battle.
The lion-roar of the gods resounded, filling all directions.
Then, his eyes red with anger, he fitted an arrow to his bow.
Seeing him approach, with the arrow set to the bow,
The arrow had an oiled, polished tip, was half-moon shaped, and slightly curved.
With that, the mighty slayer of Vṛtra cut his bow and arrow.
Taking up another bow, strong and swift,
He struck Śakra with ten feathered arrows at the region of the collarbone.
Śakra, too, unleashed a terrifying shower of arrows at the lord of the demons.
