Hiraṇyakaśipu, the Daitya, powerful and swollen with pride—
Previously, the Daityas, equal in strength, were like Madhu and Kaiṭabha.
In every age, O Hari, the destruction of the Daityas has come about through you.
Thus encouraged, Viṣṇu, the mighty-armed, grew in strength.

I am able to burn up all the demons of the three worlds in an instant.
Both Mahiṣa and Śuṃbha were slain by a woman; therefore, with your divine power, slay Jaṃbha, who is swollen with pride.
That demon is invulnerable to all beings except you.

The essence of all the worlds, of strength, and even of ascetic power,

The great gods, with bodies entwined by serpents, powerful, with blue throats,
With tawny, towering matted hair, clad in lion skins,

The Rudras, headed by Kapālīśa, who had routed the great Asuras,

Agni, filling all directions with flames, protected the other side.

The Ādityas, Vasus, Viśve Devas, Maruts, and the Aśvins as well.

That fierce and mighty lord of demons struck down his enemies with his axe.

All together released a dense shower of wondrous weapons and missiles.
Sharp spears, javelins, arrows, and even heavy maces, hard to withstand,
With fangs quivering in anger, he made a loud noise by clapping his hands.
Wherever Gajāsura fell upon the host of gods,
