यावच्च संधानवशं प्रयांति नारायणादीनि निवारणाय २०.
As long as the Nārāyaṇa and other weapons were being set in motion for counteraction,
अनंतरं शांतभयं तदस्त्रं दैत्यास्त्रयोगेन च कालदण्डम् २०.
Immediately, that weapon, which brought peace and fear, and the rod of Time by the power of the Daitya weapon,
जग्राह चक्रं तपना युतप्रभमुग्रारमात्मानमिव द्वितीयम् २०.
He took up the discus, blazing with the radiance of the sun, as if he were a second self.
तदाव्रजच्चक्रमथो विलोक्य सर्वात्मना दैत्यवराः स्ववीर्यात् २०.
Then, as the discus advanced, the foremost Dānavas, with all their might, beheld it.
तदप्रतर्क्यं नवहेतितुल्यं चक्रं पपात ग्रसनस्य कण्ठे २०.
That inconceivable discus, equal to a new missile, fell upon the throat of Grasana.
चक्राहतः संयति दानवश्च पपात भूमौ प्रममार चापि २०.
Struck by the discus in battle, the Dānava fell to the ground and died.
ततो विनिहते दैत्ये ग्रसने बलनायके २०.
Then, when the Daitya Grasana, the leader of the forces, was slain,
पट्टिशैर्मुशलैः प्रासैग्नि दाभिः कणपैरपि २०.
With spears, maces, iron clubs, fire-missiles, and stones as well,
तदस्त्रजालं तैर्मुक्तं लब्धलक्षो जनार्दनः २०.
Janardana, having discerned the aim, released that network of weapons.
जघान तेषां संक्रुद्धः कोटिकोटिं जनार्दनः २०.
Janardana, enraged, slew countless millions of them.
गरुडं जगृहुः केचित्पादयोः शतशोऽसुराः २०.
Hundreds of asuras seized Garuda by the feet.
केशवस्यापि धनुषि भुजयोः शीर्ष एव च २०.
They also grasped Kesava's bow, arms, and head.
तदद्भुतं महद्दृष्ट्वा सिद्धचारणवार्तिकाः २०.
Witnessing that great and wondrous event, the Siddhas, Charanas, and Vartikas were amazed.
ततो हरिर्विनिर्धूय पातयामास तान्भुवि २०.
Then Hari shook them off and cast them down to the earth.
विकोशं च ततः नंदकं खड्गमुत्तमम् २०.
Then he drew forth Nandaka, the excellent sword.
ततो मुहूर्तमात्रेण पद्मानि दश केशवः २०.
Thereafter, in a mere moment, Kesava manifested ten lotuses.
ततो निमिप्रभृतयो विनद्यासुरसत्तमाः २०.
Then the foremost asuras, led by Nimi, roared loudly.
गरुत्मांश्चाभ्ययात्तूर्णमारुरोह च तं हरिः २०.
Garuda swiftly approached, and Hari mounted him.
अश्रांतो यदि तार्क्ष्यासि मथनं प्रति तद्व्रज २०.
If you are tireless, O Tarkshya, proceed toward the churning.
न मे श्रमोऽस्ति लोकेश किंचित्संस्मरतश्च मे २०.
O Lord of the worlds, I feel no fatigue, even as I recall you.
इति ब्रवन्रणे दैत्यं मथनं प्रति सोऽगमत् २०.
Speaking thus in battle, he advanced toward the demon Mathana.
जघान भिंडिपालेन शितधारेण वक्षसि २०.
He struck Mathana on the chest with a sharp-edged mace.
जघान पंचभिर्बाणैर्गिरींद्रस्यापि भेदकैः २०.
He slew five with arrows that could pierce even the lord of mountains.
विचेतनो मुहूर्तात्स संस्तभ्य मथनः पुनः २०.
Mathana, unconscious for a moment, regained composure once more.
विष्णुस्तेन प्रहारेण किंचिदाघूर्णितोऽभवत् २०.
By that blow, Vishnu was somewhat shaken.
तया संताडयामास मथनं हृदये दृढम् २०.
With that, he struck Mathana firmly in the heart.
तस्मिन्निपतिते भूमौ मथने मथिते भृशम् २०.
When it fell to the ground, the churning was stirred intensely.
ततस्तेषु विषण्णेषु दानवेष्वतिमानिषु २०.
Then, as the arrogant demons became disheartened among them,
प्रत्युद्ययौ हरिं रौद्रः स्वबाहुबलमाश्रितः २०.
A fierce one advanced against Hari, relying on the strength of his own arms.
शक्त्या च गरुडं वीरो हृदयेऽभ्यहनद्दृढम् २०.
And the hero struck Garuda firmly in the heart with his spear.
