With a deep, resounding crash that made the heart of the world tremble.
He poured down cold water upon the army of the lord of the Dānavas.
Like seeds and sprouts that wither when struck by rain upon the earth.
He rained a fierce shower of weapons upon the invincible hosts of the gods.
They could see no way forward, like cows afflicted by cold; terrified, they hid here and there among the chariots.
Thus, as they were being destroyed, they perished, seized by Death.
Some were split open, their heads shattered, and others had their limbs broken.
Thousands of horses and tens of thousands of elephants.
In this way, on the battlefield, the great demon Kālanemi, the mighty asura—
Five hundred thousand Yakṣas, and just as many Kinnaras,
The numbers of the other hosts of divine beings could not be counted.
Thus, in that dreadful and terrifying destruction of the immortals,
Those two struck each demon in battle with sixty arrows each.
Wounded by their blows of arrows, he was only barely conscious.
With that discus, along with his horses, he cut apart the axle of the chariot.
He rained down upon the heads of the two physicians, covering the expanse of the sky.
Seeing that feat accomplished by them, he was astonished and filled with anger.
He then, whirling it with force, hurled it at their chariot.
The two Ashvins, leaping swiftly, abandoned both chariots with speed.
Adorned with golden filigree, he tore open the earth.
Both were employing the thunderbolt weapon, fighting against the lord of the demons.
The chariot, the banner, the bow, the umbrella, and the armor as well—
Seeing that difficult feat, the mighty Ashvins, of terrible valor—
Then, enraged, Kalanemi ceased the thunderbolt weapon.
Perceiving their intention, he left the battlefield.
Kalanemi, the demon, followed them, roaring again and again.
He, like Time at the end of an age, pursued Indra.
As cries of 'ha-ha' arose, the gods regarded it thus.
The chief mountain peaks moved; meteors fell from the sky.
Seeing that terrifying distortion of beings, the gods with Indra were struck with fear.
