Seizing the fearsome bhuśuṇḍī, heavy as a mountain,
After scattering them, he placed the jeweled crown upon his own chariot.
Taking the treasures and riches, surrounded by his own army,
Even Dhanada, his hair loosened, had all his wealth seized.
Then, Kujaṃbha engaged the son of the night-roaming ones.
The lord of the Daityas bewitched him, making the world filled with darkness.
At that time, they were unable to move even a single step there.
The god Nirṛti struck fiercely, shrouded in darkness.
But the lord of the Dānavas, Mahiṣa, was like the cloud at the end of an age.
Then, in the brilliance of the supreme Sāvitra missile, it expanded.
Then, from that missile, white light, marked by sparks, arose in the darkness.
When the darkness subsided, the Daitya lords regained their sight.
Then, taking a terrible bow and an arrow like a venomous serpent,
The lord of the Rākṣasas, seeing him approach, along with his followers,
No sound of drawing, no fitting, nor release could be perceived from him.
With a sharp arrow, he cut down the banner of the foe of the gods.
With an arrow fashioned by Time, he struck him upon the chest.
The lord of the demons, by the lord of the rakshasas, was shaken as the earth quakes.
A foot-soldier approached the chariot, and a rakshasa with his left hand.
Then, enraged, he wished to cut off the head with a sword, seeing Nirriti subdued by Kujambha in battle.
Meanwhile, the god Varuna, bearer of the noose, arrived.
Then, the demon, his arms bound, his strength rendered futile.
By that blow, blood flowed from his wounds in streams.
Seeing Kujambha in such a condition, Mahishasura,
Nirriti and Varuna, both, fierce-faced with sharp fangs,
Abandoning their chariots, both terrified, the foot-soldiers fled swiftly.
Then, enraged, the demon Mahisha rushed toward Varuna.
He released a weapon, formidable as a mass of snow.
By that, with fierce wind and desiccating snow,
The bodies of the demon armies were burned all around.
