निषसाद रथोपस्थे दुर्वाचा सुजनो यथा १८.
He sat down on the chariot seat, silent, as a virtuous man does in the presence of harsh words.
राक्षसो निर्ऋतिर्देवो निशाचरबलानुगः १८.
The Rākṣasa, the god Nirṛti, accompanied by the forces of the night-wandering ones.
अथ दृष्ट्वातिदुर्धर्षं कुजंभो राक्षसेश्वरम् १८.
Then, seeing the exceedingly formidable lord of the Rākṣasas, Kujaṃbha—
स दृष्ट्वा नोदितां सेनां प्रबलास्त्रां सुभीषणाम् १८.
He saw the army, not yet urged on, powerful in weapons and truly terrifying.
खड्गेन तीक्ष्णधारेण चर्मपाणिरधावत १८.
With a sword of keen edge in hand, holding his shield, he rushed forward.
लोडयामास बहुधा विनिष्कृत्य सहस्रशः १८.
He struck down many, scattering them by the thousands.
संदष्टौष्ठमुखैः पृथ्वीं दैत्यानां सोऽभ्यपूरयत् १८.
With lips and mouth clenched in fury, he filled the earth with Daityas.
मुक्त्वा धनपतिं दैत्यः कुजंभो निर्ऋतिं ययौ १८.
Leaving the lord of wealth, the Daitya Kujaṃbha went to Nirṛti.
जीवग्राहं स जग्राह बद्धा पाशैः सहस्रधा १८.
He seized the living captive, bound with thousands of nooses.
वाहनानि च दिव्यानि विमानानि च सर्वशः १८.
And all the divine vehicles and flying chariots as well.
निःश्वसन्दीर्घमुष्णं च रोषात्ताम्रविलोचनः १८.
Breathing long and hot from anger, his eyes copper-red.
मुमोच दानवानीके तं बाणं शत्रुदारणम् १८.
He released that arrow, which rends enemies, into the host of Dānavas.
निश्चेरुर्विस्फुलिंगानां कोटयो धनुषस्तथा १८.
Millions of sparks shot forth from the bow as well.
तदस्त्रं सहसा दृष्ट्वा जंभो भीमपराक्रमः १८.
Seeing that weapon suddenly, Jambha of terrible might—
ततस्तं दानवो दृष्ट्वा कुबेरं रोषविह्वलः १८.
Then, seeing Kubera, the Dānava, overcome with rage—
अथाभिमुखमायांतं दैत्यं दृष्ट्वा धनाधिपः १८.
Then, seeing the Daitya approaching head-on, the lord of wealth—
ततः पलायतस्तस्य मुकुटो रत्नमंडितः १८.
As he fled, his crown adorned with jewels—
यक्षणामभिजातानां भग्नं प्रववृते रणात् १८.
Among the noble Yakṣas, defeat arose from the battle.
इति व्यवस्य दुर्धर्षा नानाशस्त्रास्त्रपाणयः १८.
Thus resolved, the formidable ones, bearing various weapons and missiles,
अभिमान धना वीरा धनस्य पदानुगाः १८.
Proud warriors, followers of Dhana, accompanied him step by step.
भुशुण्डीं भीषणाकारां गृहीत्वा शैलगौरवाम् १८.
Seizing the fearsome bhuśuṇḍī, heavy as a mountain,
तान्प्रमथ्याथ नियुतं मुकुटं तं स्वके रथे १८.
After scattering them, he placed the jeweled crown upon his own chariot.
धनानि च निधीन्गृह्य स्वसैन्येन समावृतः १८.
Taking the treasures and riches, surrounded by his own army,
धनदोऽपि धनं सर्वं गृहीतो मुक्तमूर्धजः १८.
Even Dhanada, his hair loosened, had all his wealth seized.
कुजंभेनाथ संसक्तो रजनीचरनंदनः १८.
Then, Kujaṃbha engaged the son of the night-roaming ones.
मोहयामास दैत्येन्द्रो जगत्कृत्वा तमोमयम् १८.
The lord of the Daityas bewitched him, making the world filled with darkness.
न शेकुश्चलितुं तत्र पदादपि पदं तदा १८.
At that time, they were unable to move even a single step there.
जघान निर्ऋतिर्देवस्तमसा संवृता भृशम् १८.
The god Nirṛti struck fiercely, shrouded in darkness.
महिषो दानवेन्द्रस्तु कल्पांतां भोदसन्निभः १८.
But the lord of the Dānavas, Mahiṣa, was like the cloud at the end of an age.
विजृंभत्यथ सावित्रे परमास्त्रे प्रातपिनि १८.
Then, in the brilliance of the supreme Sāvitra missile, it expanded.
