Seeing Death overpowered, the lord of wealth, mace in hand—
Jambha, surrounded by Danava troops, advanced in anger.
Then Grasana, regaining consciousness, hurled a mace at Yama.
Seeing that mace hurtling toward him, the buffalo-rider—
—released his staff in anger, blazing with garlands of flames.
By those two weapons, a cataclysm arose, as unbearable as two mountains.
The world fell into turmoil, fearing the arrival of dissolution.
A terrible crushing between the two took place, shaking the mountain realm.
Having vanquished human strength, as if fate previously acquired, he fell.
He collapsed unconscious upon the earth, adorned with dust from the ground.
Then, within a single moment, Grasana regained consciousness.
He began to reflect on the deeds done and those repaid.
The armies dependent on me, once I am conquered, are also defeated.
If I, though honored, am powerless, then neither this one nor another can prevail.
He seized a mace, resembling the rod of Time and as massive as a mountain.
Hastening in his chariot, he approached Yama, the Ender, on the battlefield.
With great speed, he hurled the fierce mace at the head of Yama.
The mighty one evaded that formidable mace, difficult to withstand.
He crushed ten thousand of Yama’s attendants.
Enraged, Grasana pursued after a hundred million more.
For she was of such form and strength, she considered them to be thousands of Yamas.
That great battle became like the terror at the end of an age.
Some sought to crush with maces, others with showers of clubs.
Other attendants of his clung to her arm-circlet.
And on other parts of her body, they struck with their teeth.
Thus, attacked by them, that Grasana, overwhelmed with anger, rushed forward.
Rising up, he struck some of the attendants in battle with his fists.
In a single moment, he sent them to the realm of Yama, O Bharata.
Seeing Grasana tireless, and his own slain exhausted followers,
Grasana, as Yama approached, struck him in the chest with his mace.
