श्रिया तेषां च किं कार्यं समृद्धानां तथापि यत् १६.
What use is wealth for those who are already prosperous?
एको ह्युपायो दंडोऽत्र भवतां यदि रोचते १६.
Here, if you approve, punishment alone is the one means.
लालितः पालितो वापि स्वस्वभावं न मुंचति १६.
Whether indulged or protected, one does not abandon his own nature.
एवमुक्तः सहस्राक्ष एवमेवेत्युवाच ह १६.
Thus addressed, the thousand-eyed one replied, 'So it is.'
बहुमानेन मे वाचं श्रृणुध्वं नाकवासिनः॥ १६.
With great respect, he said, 'O residents of heaven, listen to my words.'
भवंतो यज्ञभोक्तारः सतामिष्टाश्च सात्त्विकाः १६.
You are the enjoyers of sacrifices, dear to the virtuous, and possessed of purity.
भवतां च निमित्तेन बाधंते दानवेश्वराः १६.
Because of you, the lords of the demons cause distress.
क्रियतां समरे बुद्धिः सैन्यं संयोज्यतामिति १६.
Let counsel be taken for battle; let the army be assembled.
इत्युक्ताः समनह्यंत देवानां ये प्रधानतः १६.
Thus addressed, those who were foremost among the gods prepared themselves.
वाहनानि विमानानि योजयंतु ममामराः १६.
Let my immortals yoke the vehicles and aerial cars.
नानाश्चर्यगुणोपेता दुर्जया देवदानवैः १६.
Endowed with wondrous qualities, unconquerable by gods and demons.
यमो महिषमास्थाय सेनाग्रे समवर्तत १६.
Yama, mounting his buffalo, took position at the head of the army.
कल्पकालोज्जवालापूरितांबरगोचरः १६.
The sky was filled with the blazing flames of the end of the age.
पवनोंऽकुशपाणिस्तु विस्तारितमहाजवः १६.
The wind, holding a goad in his hand, moved with immense speed.
भुजगेन्द्रं समारूढो जलेशो भगवान्स्वयम् १६.
The blessed Lord of Waters himself mounted the king of serpents.
नरयुक्ते रथे दिव्ये धनाध्यक्षो व्यचीचरत् १६.
The Lord of Wealth rode about in a divine chariot drawn by men.
राक्षसेशोऽथ निर्ऋती रथे रक्षोमुखैर्हयैः १६.
Then the Lord of the Rākṣasas, Nirṛti, rode in a chariot with horses having demon faces.
चंद्रादित्यावश्विनौ च वसवः साध्यदेवताः १६.
The Moon, the Sun, the Aśvins, the Vasus, and the Sādhyas, the divine beings,
हेमपीठत्तरासंगाश्चित्रवर्मायुधध्वजाः १६.
were adorned with golden upper garments, splendid armor, weapons, and banners.
तथा रक्तोत्तरासंगा निर्मलायोविभूषणाः १६.
Likewise, those with red upper garments, pure weapons, and ornaments.
तथा भीमाशनिकराः कृष्णवस्त्रा महारथाः १६.
Also, the mighty ones wielding terrifying thunderbolts, clad in black garments, were great chariot-warriors.
ताम्रोलूकध्वजा रौद्रा द्वीपिचर्मांबरास्तथा १६.
Those with coppery owl banners, fierce, and clothed in leopard skins as garments.
तथैव श्वेतवसनाः सितपट्टपताकिनः १६.
In the same way, those in white garments, with white silk banners.
मुक्ताजाल पिरष्कारो हंसो हारसमप्रभः १६.
Their ornaments were strings of pearls, swan-like, shining like necklaces.
पंचरागमहारत्नविटंको धनदस्य च १६.
The Lord of Wealth had a staff adorned with five-colored great jewels.
कार्ष्णलोहमयो ध्वांक्षो यमस्याभून्महाध्वजः १६.
Yama's great banner was made of black iron and bore the image of a vulture.
हेमसिंहध्वजौ देवौ चन्द्रार्कवमितद्युति १६.
The two gods had banners of golden lions, their radiance rivaling the moon and sun.
मातंगो हेमरचितश्चित्ररत्नपरिष्कृतः १६.
There was an elephant, crafted of gold and decorated with various precious gems.
अन्येषां च ध्वजास्तत्र नानारूपा बभू रणे १६.
There, too, were banners of others, of many forms, in the battle.
सेना सा देवराजस्य दुर्जया प्रत्यदृश्यत १६.
That army of the king of the gods appeared invincible.
