जन्म तस्य वृथा सर्वमाकल्पांतं न संशयः॥ १६.
His entire birth is in vain until the end of the age, without a doubt.
मातापितृभ्यां न करोति कामान्बन्धूनशोकान्न करोति यो वा १६.
He who does not fulfill the desires of his mother and father, nor remove the sorrows of his relatives—
तस्माज्जयायामरपुंगवानां त्रैलोक्यलक्ष्मीहरणाय शीघ्रम् १६.
Therefore, quickly, for the sake of victory over the foremost of the immortals and to seize the fortune of the three worlds—
ध्वजं च मे कांचनपट्टबन्धं छत्रं च मे मौक्तिकजालबद्धम् १६.
Bring me a banner bound with golden cloth, and a parasol adorned with a net of pearls.
यथा पुरा मर्कटको जनन्यास्तस्याश्च सत्येन तु तारकः स्याम्॥ १६.
By the truth that, as before, the monkey was born of that mother, so may I, Tāraka, be likewise.
तारकस्य वचः श्रुत्वा ग्रसनोनाम दानवः १६.
Hearing Tāraka's words, the demon named Grasana—
आहत्य भेरीं गम्भीरां दैत्यानाहूय सत्वरः १६.
Struck a deep drum and swiftly summoned the demons.
गरुडानां सहस्रेण गरुडोपमितत्विषा १६.
With a thousand Garuḍas, whose brilliance rivaled Garuḍa himself—
विजित्य दैत्यराजेन वाहनत्वे प्रकल्पिताः १६.
Having conquered them, the demon king appointed them as his mounts.
नानाक्रीडागृहयुतो गीतवाद्यमनोहरः १६.
Accompanied by various playhouses, with enchanting songs and music—
आजग्मुस्तत्र दैत्याश्च दशा चंडपराक्रमाः १६.
There arrived at that place ten demons of fierce valor.
तेषामग्रेसरो जम्भः कुजम्भोनंतरस्तथा १६.
Foremost among them was Jambha, with Kujambha next after him.
मथनो जंभकः शुम्भो दैत्येंद्रा दश नायकाः १६.
Mathana, Jambhaka, Śumbha—these ten demon lords were the leaders.
नानाविधप्रहरणा नानाशस्त्रास्त्रपारगाः १६.
Equipped with various weapons, skilled in many arms and missiles—
क्वचिच्च राक्षसो घोरः पिशाचध्वांक्षगृध्रकः १६.
And in some places, a terrible Rākṣasa, along with Piśācas, vultures, and kites.
केतुना मकरेणापि सेनानीर्ग्रसनो बभौ १६.
With a banner bearing a makara, the general Grasana shone forth.
खरो विधुतलांगूलः कुजम्भस्याभवद्ध्वजे १६.
A donkey, shaking its tail, became the banner of Kujambha.
गृध्रो वै कुंजरस्यासीन्मेषस्याभूच्च राक्षसः १६.
A vulture was the emblem of Kunjara, and a demon adorned the banner of Mesha.
राक्षसी मथनस्यापि ध्वांक्षोऽभूज्जंभकस्य च १६.
A demoness was the emblem of Mathana, and a hawk for Jambhaka.
अनेकाकारविन्यासादन्येषां च ध्वजा भवन् १६.
Due to the display of many forms, the banners of the others were varied.
ग्रसनस्य रथो युक्तो महामेघरवो बभौ १६.
The chariot of Grasana, yoked and resounding like a great cloud, shone.
कुजंभस्य रथो युक्तः पिशाचवदनैः खरैः १६.
Kujambha's chariot was yoked with donkeys bearing faces like goblins.
मेषस्य द्वीपिभिर्भीमैः कुञ्जरैः कालनेमिनः १६.
Mesha's chariot was drawn by fierce elephants, and Kalanemi's by mighty elephants.
चतुर्दंष्ट्रैर्गंधवद्भिश्चर्भिर्मेघसन्निभैः १६.
With four-tusked, fragrant, and fierce elephants resembling clouds.
सितचामरजालेन शोभिते पुष्पदामनि १६.
Adorned with a net of white yak tails, it shone in a flower-decked arena.
किंकिणीमालिनं चोष्ट्रमारूढोऽभूच्च जंभकः १६.
Jambhaka mounted a camel adorned with a garland of bells.
अन्ये च दानवा वीरा नानावाहनहेतयः १६.
Other heroic Danavas had various mounts and weapons.
नानाविधोत्तरासंगा नानामाल्यविभूषणाः १६.
With diverse upper garments and various garlands and ornaments.
नानावाद्यपरिस्यंदसाग्रेसरमहारथाः १६.
With many musical instruments resounding, the foremost among great chariots.
तद्बलं दैत्यसिंहस्य भीमरूपं व्यदृश्यत १६.
That army of the lion among Daityas appeared in a terrifying form.
