दृढप्रांशुसमुद्भूतसोपानश्रेणिभासुरम् ११.
It shone with a series of firm and lofty steps rising up.
तत्र जागेश्वरं लिंगं गृत्वाथ विनिवेशितम् ११.
There, having taken the liṅga of Jāgeśvara, it was installed.
बकपुष्पैस्तथान्यैश्च केदारोत्थैः समाहृतैः ११.
With bakapuṣpa flowers and others, gathered from the fields,
कूष्मांडैश्चैव वर्णाद्यैरुन्मत्तकुसुमायुतैः ११.
And with gourds and various colored flowers, adorned with wild blossoms,
पूजा विरचिता रम्या शंभोरिति मया नृप ११.
A beautiful worship of Śambhu was performed by me, O King.
शिवस्य पुरतो बाल्याद्गीतं च स्वस्वर्जितम् ११.
Before Śiva, in childhood, I sang a song of my own creation.
ततो मृतोऽहं जातश्च विप्रो जातिस्मरो नृप ११.
Then, having died, I was born as a brāhmaṇa with memory of my past life, O King.
शिवदीक्षामुपागम्यानुगृहीतः शिवागमैः ११.
Receiving initiation into Śiva’s mysteries, I was favored with the Śaiva scriptures.
कल्पकोटिं वसेत्स्वर्गेयः करोति शिवालयम् ११.
Whoever builds a temple for Śiva dwells in heaven for ten million kalpas.
भवंति तावद्वर्षाणि करकः शिवसद्मनि ११.
For as many years as there are drops of water, one remains in Śiva’s abode.
अकारिषमहं रम्यं विश्वकर्मविधानतः ११.
I constructed a beautiful temple according to the design of Viśvakarman.
कृतमायतनं दद्यात्क्रमाद्दशगुणं फलम् ११.
If one gives a completed shrine, the reward increases tenfold each time.
जटाधरस्तपस्यंश्च शिवाराधनतत्परः ११.
Bearing matted hair, devoted to austerity, intent on worshipping Śiva,
जातो जाति स्मरस्तत्र कारिता तृतीयेहं भवांतरे ११.
I was born there as a jātismara, one who remembers past births, in my third existence.
जयदत्त इति ख्यातः सूर्यवंशसमुद्भवः ११.
Known as Jayadatta, born of the Solar dynasty,
तस्मिन्भवांतरे शंभोराराधनपरेण च ११.
In that existence, too, I was devoted to the worship of Śambhu.
सौवर्णै राजतै रत्ननिर्मितैः कुसुमैर्नृप ११.
With golden, silver, and jewel-made flowers, O King,
केवलं शिवलिंगानां पूजां पुष्पैः करोम्यहम् ११.
I performed only the worship of Śiva-liṅgas with flowers.
अजरामरतां राजंस्तेनैव वपुषावृतः ११.
Endowed with that very body, O King, I attained agelessness and immortality.
विचरामि महीमेतां मदांध इव वारणः ११.
I roam this earth like a maddened elephant.
प्रधर्षयितुमारब्धः स्त्रियः परपरिग्रहाः ११.
He began to violate women who belonged to others.
विनाशकारणं मुख्यं परदारप्रधर्षणम् ११.
The chief cause of destruction is the violation of another's wife.
अचेतनश्चेतनावान्मूर्खो विद्वानपि स्फुटम् ११.
Whether one is senseless or possessed of sense, a fool or even a learned man, clearly—
यदैव हरिणाक्षीणां गोचरं याति चक्षुषाम् ११.
—when he comes within the sight of doe-eyed women—
एवं लोकद्वयं हंत्री परदारप्रधर्षणा ११.
—thus, the violation of another's wife destroys both worlds.
ऐहिकामुष्मिकभयं विहायांह ततः परम् ११.
Having cast aside fear of consequences in this world and the next, he committed that sin.
अथ मां संपरिज्ञाय मर्यादारहितं यमः व्यजिज्ञपन्मदीयं च शंभोर्धर्मव्यतिक्रमम्॥ ११.
Then Yama, recognizing me as one who had transgressed all bounds, informed Śambhu of my violation of dharma.
नाहं तवानुभावेन गुप्तस्यास्य विनिग्रहम्॥ ११.
"By your power I am unable to restrain this one who is protected,"
शक्रोमि पापिनो देव मन्नियोगेऽन्यमादिश ११.
"O god, I cannot punish this sinner; appoint another in my place."
गावो विप्राः सनिगमा अलुब्धा दानशीलिनः ११.
