यद्ययं चिरकारी स्यात्स मां त्रायेत पातकात् ६.
If this one is a long-suffering person, he may deliver me from sin.
यदद्य चिरकारी त्वं ततोऽसि चिरकारिकः ६.
Because today you are long-suffering, therefore you are called long-suffering.
आत्मानं पातके विष्टं शुभाह्व चिरकारिक ६.
You, called long-suffering, are immersed in sin yourself.
चिरकारिकं ददर्शाथ पुत्रं मातुरुपांतिके ६.
He saw the long-suffering son near his mother.
शस्त्रं त्यक्त्वा स्थितो मूर्ध्ना प्रसादायोपचक्रमे ६.
Having set aside his weapon, he stood with his head bowed, beginning to seek favor.
पत्नीं चैव तु जीवंतीं परामभ्यगमन्मुदम् ६.
And he approached his living wife with supreme joy.
बुद्धिरासीत्सुतं दृष्ट्वा पितुश्चरणयोर्नतम् ६.
Seeing his son bowed at his father's feet, Medhātithi's mind was moved.
ततः पित्रा चिरं स्मृत्वा चिरं चाघ्राय मूर्धनि ६.
Then, recalling his son for a long time and smelling his head for a long time,
चिरं मुदान्वितः पुत्रं मेधातिथिरथाब्रवीत् ६.
Medhātithi, filled with joy for a long time, spoke to his son.
चिराय यत्कृतं सौम्य चिरमस्मिन् दुःखितः ६.
O gentle one, what has been done for a long time, and what has caused sorrow here for a long time,
चिरेण मंत्रं संधीयाच्चिरेम च कृतं त्यजेत् ६.
A counsel should be established after much time, and what has been done for a long time should be abandoned.
रोगे दर्पे च माने च द्रोहे पापे च कर्मणि ६.
In disease, pride, honor, enmity, sin, and action,
बंधूनां सुहृदां चैव भृत्यानां स्त्रीजनस्य च ६.
Among relatives, friends, servants, and womenfolk,
चिरं धर्मान्निषेवेत कुर्याच्चान्वेषणं चिरम् ६.
One should practice dharma for a long time and pursue inquiry for a long time.
चिरं विनीय चात्मानं चिरं यात्यनवज्ञताम् ६.
By disciplining oneself for a long time, one attains respect for a long time.
चिरं पृच्छेच्च श्रृणुयाच्चिरं न परिभूयते ६.
One should ask questions for a long time and listen for a long time; thus, one is not disregarded for a long time.
भये च साधुपूजायां चिरकारी न शस्यते ६.
In danger and in honoring the virtuous, one who delays is not praised.
ततश्चिरमुपास्याथ दिवं यातिश्चिरं मुनिः ६.
Then, after worshipping for a long time, the sage attains heaven for a long time.
कलौ च भवतां विप्रा मच्छापो निपतिष्यति ६.
And in the Kali age, O Brahmins, my curse will fall upon you.
पादप्रक्षालनं कृत्वा ततोऽहं धर्मवर्मणः ६.
After washing the feet, I, for the sake of Dharmavarman,
कांचनैरर्नोप्रदानैश्च गृहदानैर्धनादिभिः ६.
With gifts of gold, land, and household donations of wealth and the like,
ततः करं समुद्यम्य प्राहेन्द्रो देवसंगमे ६.
Then, raising his hand, Indra spoke in the assembly of the gods.
गणाधीशो वयं यावद्यावत्त्रिभुवनं त्विदम् ६.
We are the lords of the hosts as long as this threefold world exists.
ब्रह्मशापो रुद्रशापो विष्णुशापस्तथैव च ६.
The curse of Brahma, the curse of Rudra, and likewise the curse of Vishnu—
ततस्तथेति तैः सर्वैर्हृष्टैस्तत्र तथोदितम् स्थाने उभे देवकृते प्रसन्नास्ततो ययुर्देवता देवसद्म॥ ६.
Then, with joy, all those present agreed, saying, 'So be it,' as had been spoken there. Both acts done by the gods were fitting, and thus the deities, pleased, departed for the divine abode.
महीसागरमाहात्म्यमद्भुतं कीर्तितं त्वया ७.
You have recounted the wondrous greatness of the Earth-Ocean.
तदहं विस्तराच्छ्रोतुमिदमिच्छामि नारद ७.
O Nārada, I wish to hear that in detail.
महादाख्यानमाख्यास्ये यथा जाता महीनदी ७.
I shall narrate the great story of how the river Mahī came to be.
पुराभूद्भूपतिर्भूमाविन्द्रद्युम्न इति श्रुतः ७.
Long ago, there was a king on earth known as Indradyumna.
उचितज्ञो विवेकस्य निवासो गुणसागरः ७.
He was skilled in what was proper, a dwelling place of discernment, and an ocean of virtues.
