There, a lifespan of four thousand years is proclaimed.
Thus this has been told to you; now listen to what happened next.
O twice-born ones, I arrived at the confluence of earth and ocean.
Having crossed that, I released them on the shore, at the sacred lake.
In the blazing fire of all-consuming faults, at the confluence of earth and ocean,
We, absorbed at the confluence, recited the supreme mantra.
Meanwhile, O son of Pṛthā, the gods led by Indra,
The eight sources of the gods, and the hosts of Gandharvas and Apsarases,
I was prepared to wash the feet of the Brāhmaṇas.
Accompanied by the sound of Sāma chants, resounding with the third note,
A Brāhmaṇa rose and asked, 'Who are you, Brāhmaṇa, and from where have you come?'
He replied, 'I am the sage named Kapila; let this be made known to Nārada.'
'I am blessed that you have come here, O great sage Kapila.'
'O son of Brahmā, if you are to grant me something, listen to this from me.'
'I shall give land to the residents of Kalāpa village.'
Then I made this vow: 'So be it, O great sage.'
If, at a śrāddha or at the proper time, a guest is neglected,
He who does not honor a guest will go to the worlds of Raurava.
There, Kapila the sage was honored with gifts and sacrifices.
For the purpose of washing the feet, at the gathering of perfected gods,
Then a great laughter arose among the Siddhas and Apsarases of auspicious limbs.
Then, even in my mind, a great surge of sorrow arose.
In all undertakings, the word 'weapon' is considered reprehensible.
Then I said to the Brahmins: 'You will become fools.'
When this was spoken, Harita laughed and said this:
What curse is given to you? This itself is your curse.
Because of your offering with the left foot, such is your condition.
Listen to the reason, O wise one, why emptiness befell me.
Thinking thus in my mind: 'Alas, this acceptance is painful.'
For when a Brahmin accepts a great gift, whatever is his own merit—
