Therefore, I am truly blessed, for I have attained the fruit of birth.
Then they all rose together, led by Shatatapa.
And the virtuous people spoke to me, O Partha, words filled with thought.
From where have you come, and where must you go now?
Hearing the pleasing words of the twice-born, O Pandava—
By the command of Brahma, I have come to the auspicious abode of the Brahmins.
Examining the Brahmins here, I have arrived; you have been examined.
Thus addressed, Shatatapa looked at the Brahmins and spoke.
What then can be said of that very place, where the earth meets the ocean?
Moreover, there is a single great fault there, which we greatly fear.
In those places, the sixteenth and twenty-first touch, and they do not take wealth.
It is better to dwell in hunger than to fall into the hands of thieves.
What wealth do these take, from whom the Brahmins are afraid?
Fearing theft from them, the Brahmins spoke to me thus.
What indeed do wicked thieves do to people who are awake?
What, then, can truly be accomplished by that? The earth swallows that man.
We, frightened by the fear of thieves, have had great wealth taken away.
The wicked thieves have gone somewhere, and so, bowing, we have returned.
And indeed, accepting gifts is terrible, yielding only a sixth part as fruit.
Who, with a deluded mind, would ever go to the place where the earth meets the ocean?
What wise person would dwell in villages among the Kalapas and others?
And what will all the fear of thieves do there?
Without risk, prosperity is never attained in any way.
Twenty-six thousand Brahmins are in my household.
Together with them, I shall come; this is my highest resolve.
Having suddenly withdrawn, Partha, he moved through the sky, filled with great joy.
He reached Kedāra, accompanied by those excellent twice-born ones.
And, by the grace of Skanda, it was not possible to cross otherwise.
Where is Kalāpa, and that village—how could it be reached by the tunnel?
From Kedāra to Himasaṃyukta, it is said to be a hundred yojanas.
