कनकांकितशृंगाग्रपरिधूतवनावलिः
The forests, shaken at the peaks adorned with gold, swayed.
वसंतप्रमुखाः सर्वे सहर्षमृतवः पुरः
All the seasons, led by Spring, joyfully came forth.
गणैश्च विविधाकाराः सिद्धाश्च परमर्षयः
Hosts of beings of various forms, accomplished ones, and supreme sages gathered.
कुंकुमक्षोदसंमिश्रकर्पूररजसान्वितः
The air was filled with the fragrance of camphor mixed with saffron powder.
अथ मृदंगकमर्दलझल्लरीपटहदुंदुभितालसमन्वितैः 1.3.1.12.
Then, the air resounded with the rhythms of mṛdaṅga, karaṭala, jhallarī, paṭaha, and dundubhi drums.
सुरवधूजननृत्तनिरंतरोल्लुलिततुंबरुगायनगीतिभिः
Celestial women danced continuously, accompanied by the singing and music of tumbaru lutes.
सरसमेत्य शिवः करुणानिधिर्नतमुखीमपि तामपलज्जया
Shiva, the ocean of compassion, approached her, who stood with her face lowered in modesty.
ललितया निजया प्रिययान्वितः सुरमुनींद्रसमाजसमावृतः
Gracefully accompanied by his own beloved, and surrounded by the assembly of gods and great sages.
अथ शिवः सुरराजसमर्पिताञ्छुभपटीरमुखानिलसौरभान्
Then Shiva, to whom the king of the gods had offered auspicious cloths fragrant with the scents of breezes, ...
समनुलेपितहारसुमंडितावभिगतौ सिततां समलंकृतौ
Adorned with garlands and smeared with sandal paste, both approached, splendidly decorated in white.
कठिनतुंगघनस्तनकोरकस्थगितमंगलगंधमनोहराम्
She, whose auspicious fragrance was enhanced by her firm, high, dense, bud-like breasts.
अथ विनोदशतैरुपलक्षितां निजवियोगजताप कृशान्विताम्
Then, marked by hundreds of amusements, yet made thin by the pain of separation from her beloved.
सकुतुकं प्रणिपत्य नगात्मजा पुररिपुं भुवनत्रयगुप्तये
With curiosity, the mountain's daughter bowed to the enemy of the city, for the protection of the three worlds.
अयाचत्तादृशा शंभुमविनाभावमात्मनः
She requested Shambhu for such a union, never to be separated from him.
इदं विज्ञापयामास लोकानुग्रहकारणात्
She made this request known, for the sake of the world's welfare.
न त्याज्यमेतत्ते रूपमत्र दृष्टिमनोहरम् मनोहरमिदं रूपमेतत्ते लोकमंगलम्
This form of yours, so delightful to behold, must not be abandoned; this beautiful form of yours brings good fortune to the world.
आलोक्यतां सदा सर्वैर्दिव्यगन्धसमन्वितम्
Let it always be seen by all, endowed with a divine fragrance.
भीषणैरलमीशान जय वेषपरिग्रहैः
O Lord, be victorious, adorned with fearsome and wondrous forms.
भूषितो रत्नभूषाभिर्विहरस्व महेश्वर
Adorned with jeweled ornaments, roam freely, O Great Lord.
सेवंतामत्र देवेशं नृत्यवादित्रगीतिभिः
Let the Lord of the gods be served here with dance, music, and song.
त्वत्प्रसादादयं देव सुगंधिः पुष्टिवर्द्धनः
By your grace, O Lord, this fragrance is nourishing and life-enhancing.
गृहीतमत्र देवेश सर्वमंत्रात्मकं वपुः
Here, O Lord of the gods, the form embodying all mantras has been assumed.
ज्ञानाज्ञानकृतं नित्यमपराधसहस्रकम् 1.3.1.13.
Constantly, there are thousands of offenses arising from knowledge and ignorance.
इति देव्या वचः श्रुत्वा शम्भुः शोणाचलेश्वरः
Hearing these words of the goddess, Śambhu, Lord of Śoṇācala—
आभाष्य गौरीं कुतुकाद्रंतुकामः स्वयं शिवः
Śiva himself, desiring union, spoke to Gaurī with delight.
कृत्वा प्राप वरं मत्तः सौगन्ध्यं परमाद्भुतम्
Having granted the boon, he bestowed upon her a wondrous and supreme fragrance.
लब्ध्वा वरं स्वगन्धेनामोहयत्सुरयोषितः
Having obtained the boon, with her own fragrance she enchanted the celestial women.
देवैरभ्यर्थितः सोहमाहूयासुरनायकम्
Requested by the gods, I summoned the lord of the demons.
प्रणम्य भक्तिमनसा मामप्यर्चेदमूचिवान्
He bowed with a devoted mind, worshipped me, and spoke these words.
मदंगसंभवं दिव्यं सौरभं विश्वमोहनम्
May the divine fragrance arising from my body, enchanting the world, be yours.
