शिवे भक्तिं प्रकुर्वाणः शिवकर्मपरोऽभवत् रात्रौ जागरणं यत्नात्करोति शिवसन्निधौ॥ ३३.
Devoted to Śiva, he engaged in Śiva's acts; at night, he would make effort to keep vigil in the presence of Śiva.
शिवस्य गाथा गायंस्तु आनंदाश्रुकणान्मुहुः ३३.
Singing hymns to Śiva, he would often shed tears of joy.
आयुष्यं च गतं तस्य शिवध्यानपरस्य च ३३.
The lifespan of that one, who was devoted to meditation on Shiva, came to an end.
संसेवितुं सुखप्राप्त्यै ह्येक एव सदाशिवः ३३.
For the attainment of happiness, only Sadashiva is always to be served.
ज्ञानात्सर्वमनुप्राप्तं भूतसाम्यं निरंतरम् विना शिवेन यत्किंचिन्नास्ति वस्त्वत्र न क्वचित्॥ ३३.
Through knowledge, everything is attained; constant equality with all beings—apart from Shiva, there is nothing whatsoever that exists anywhere.
एवं पूर्णं निष्प्रपंचं ज्ञानं प्राप्नोति दुर्लभम् ३३.
Thus, one attains that rare knowledge which is complete and free from all worldly illusion.
मुक्तिं सायुज्यतां प्राप्तः शिवरात्रेरुपोषणात् ३३.
By observing the vow of Shiva’s Night, one attains liberation and union with Shiva.
दाक्षायणीवीयो गाच्च जटाजूटेन विस्तरात् वीरभद्रेति विख्यातो दक्षयज्ञविनाशनः॥ ३३.
Born from Dakshayani, with matted locks spread wide, he became renowned as Virabhadra, the destroyer of Daksha’s sacrifice.
शिवरात्रिव्रतेनैव तारिता बहवः पुरा ३३.
Many in ancient times were delivered solely by the vow of Shiva’s Night.
मांधाता धुन्धुमारिश्च हरिश्चन्द्रादयो नृपाः ३३.
Mandhata, Dhundhumara, Harishchandra, and other kings as well.
ततो गिरीशो गिरिजासमेतः क्रीडान्वितोऽसौ गिरिराजमस्तके ३३.
Then Girisha, united with Girija, delighting in play, was upon the summit of the mountain king.
राज्यं चकार कैलास दवदवा जगत्पतिः ३४.
The Lord of the world ruled the kingdom of Kailasa, blazing like fire.
ऋषिभिः सहितो रुद्रो देवैरिन्द्रादिभिः सह ३४.
Rudra, together with the sages and with the gods led by Indra, was present.
इंद्रो देवगणैः सार्द्धं सेवाधर्मपरोऽभवत् ३४.
Indra, along with the hosts of gods, became devoted to service and righteousness.
सूपान्नकर्ता सततं जातवदा निरन्तरम् ३४.
He was always the preparer of food and soups, constantly generous.
विद्याधराश्च बहवस्तथा चाप्सरसां गणाः ३४.
Many Vidyadharas and groups of Apsarases were also there.
पुत्रैर्गणेशस्कंदाद्यैस्तथा गिरिजया सह ३४.
With his sons—Ganesha, Skanda, and others—together with Girija.
येनांधको महा दैत्यः स देवानामरिर्महान् ३४.
By whom the great demon Andhaka, the mighty enemy of the gods, was slain.
हत्वा गजासुरं येन उत्कृत्त्य चर्म वै कृतम् विष्णुना पाल्यभूतेन रेजे सर्वांगसुन्दरः॥ ३४.
By whom Gajasura was killed, and his hide was flayed and worn; protected by Vishnu, he shone, beautiful in every limb.
तं द्रष्टुकामो भगवान्नारदो दिव्य र्शनः ३४.
The blessed sage Narada, adorned with divine garlands, wished to see him.
सुधया परया चापि सेवितं परमाद्भुतम् नारदो विस्मयाविष्टः प्रविष्टो गन्धमादनम्॥ ३४.
Having been served with supreme nectar and being most wondrous, Nārada, filled with amazement, entered Gandhamādana.
अनेकाश्चर्यसंयुक्तं तपनैश्च सुशोभितम् ३४.
It was adorned with many marvels and shone brilliantly with the rays of the sun.
कल्पद्रुमाश्च बहवो लताभिः परिवेष्टिताः ३४.
There were many wish-fulfilling trees entwined with creepers.
पारिजातवनामोदलंपटा बहवोऽलयः ३४.
There were many groves fragrant with Pārijāta and other celestial flowers.
शिखंडिनो महच्चक्रुस्तत्र केकारवं मुदा ३४.
Peacocks there joyfully raised their crests and called out with their cries.
करिणः करिणीभिश्च मोदमानाः सुवर्चसः ३४.
Elephants, splendid in appearance, delighted together with their mates.
वृषभा नंदिमुख्याश्च रेभमाना निरन्तरम् ३४.
Bulls, led by Nandi, ceaselessly bellowed.
नागपुंनागबकुलाश्चंपका नागकेसराः ३४.
There were nāga trees, puṇnāga, bakula, campaka, and nāgakesara trees.
कह्लाराः करवीरिश्च कुमुदानि ह्यनेकशः ३४.
There were kahlāra, karavīra, and countless kumuda lotuses.
तथान्ये बहवो वृक्षाः शम्भोस्तोषकराह्यमी आरामा बहवस्तत्र द्विगुणाश्च बभूविरे॥ ३४.
Likewise, there were many other trees, all pleasing to Śambhu; and many gardens there became twice as splendid.
