Thus praised at that time by him, the Lord of the universe—
In the entire world of humans, there is truly no one besides you.
By me, this universe, this world of moving and unmoving beings, has been destroyed.
He has indeed become your follower, O great king; grant him to me.
Thus addressed at that time by him—by Śveta and also by Kāla—
You alone are the supreme form of Śiva; there is no doubt.
Therefore, you are most worthy of worship and the ruler of all; those devoted to the marks of the self approach with various forms.
Thus, Kāla was protected by that king of supreme righteousness.
Then, praised by Yama, by Death, and by Yama's messengers, he went to his own abode, O brāhmaṇas, and considered his own origin again.
Together with his wife and Māyā, he recounted the great deeds of Śiva.
He himself narrated to all the messengers.
What is to be done must be done with effort; my words are not otherwise.
Those who bear the tripuṇḍra, and those who wear matted hair—
And those humans who, out of fear or for livelihood, do so—
You must never lead anyone to my realm.
What need is there to speak of others, when messengers worship Sadāśiva?
Whoever wears a single rudrākṣa bead upon his head, and likewise the three lines in the middle of his forehead,
In whatever kingdom, region, or village such a wise person dwells, that kingdom or region is called blessed; I declare this truth to you.
Wherever there are not those always endowed with devotion to Śiva,
Thus Yama also instructed his own attendants.
Such is Sadāśiva, the sole lord of the world, the teacher of all beings, the one alone.
Having burned Kāla, the great god granted fearlessness.
Then Śvetarāja, of great mind, attained fearlessness.
Then, honored by the gods, by sages, and likewise by serpents,
Thus, for those devoted to Mahādeva, the teacher of the world,
Even a dog-eater becomes exalted by the grace of Śaṃkara.
Among many people, devotion to Śiva arises at the end of their lives.
For the wise, those of firm resolve, Śaṃkara is present birth after birth.
Here I shall recount an ancient legend, by which the entire world, both moving and unmoving, was delivered.
What was the name of the Kirāta, and what vow did he undertake?
