The state which all the virtuous attain, O Śambhu—
And of Kumāra, O lord of the gods, whose deeds are wondrous—
Seeing the son of Shiva, they depart together with their families.
Even outcastes, upon seeing the Kumara, indeed depart.
Hearing the words of Yama, Shankara spoke these words:
Those people whose sins have ended, who have performed virtuous deeds—
—who have come to holy places, or for the sake of seeing the virtuous here—
After many lifetimes, devotion to me arises in them.
Therefore, all those who are virtuous, in whom this devotion arises—
Women, children, Shudras, and even the lowest outcastes, by the force of sanctification from previous births, indeed attain righteousness.
Thus, with a pure mind, all become wise in all matters.
Indeed, all these beings are born, all these sages, and all these deities as well.
You should not be astonished, nor should you, Kumara.
Words joined with action give fruit to all; actions are to be done for the purification of the mind—no deliberation is needed here.
The self is indeed contemplated by the mind, and by the self, one knows the self.
I am always endowed with contemplation, established in the self, uninterrupted.
Transcending duality, free from doubt, directly established in oneself, eternal, ever united, without desire.
Forgetting that very self, whose nature is pure consciousness—
I am Brahma and Vishnu; these three perform actions through the gunas.
By the activity of ego alone, these actions are caused by us.
Cattle and other beings, distinct in their own forms, and likewise many others indeed.
They have fallen into the mirage of illusion and are controlled by Māyā.
Wicked ones, delighting in false speech, slander one another.
Endowed with the three qualities, bound to worldly existence, ignorant of the true essence, and attached.
Ignorant of the truth, outwardly directed, they slander one another.
But in the reality that transcends the qualities, there is vision of the one supreme truth.
In which difference is non-difference, in which attachment becomes dispassion.
Speech does not reveal that, just as a pot, being artificial, does not reveal itself.
Both activity and cessation, and likewise all dualities.
Uninterrupted, without qualities, pure awareness, stainless, unmanifest, without desire.
