यत्पुरा ब्रह्मणा दृष्टं विष्णुना च विचिन्वता
That which was once seen by Brahmā and sought by Viṣṇu—
तेजो दर्शय मे दिव्यं सर्वदोषहरं परम्
Show me that divine radiance, supreme and remover of all faults.
आविर्बभूव तेजोभिरापूर्य भुवनांतरम्
It appeared, filling the expanse of the worlds with its brilliance.
कालाग्निकोटिसंकाशं तेजः परमदृश्यत
A supreme radiance was seen, resembling millions of fires of dissolution.
विस्मयाक्रांतहृदया ननंद नलिनेक्षणा 1.3.1.12.
Her heart overcome with wonder, the lotus-eyed one rejoiced.
हिरण्मयोऽब्रवीद्वाचं पुरुषः कलकन्धरः
A golden man, with a melodious voice, spoke these words:
तेजोमयमिदं रूपमीक्षितं च त्वयाधुना
This radiant form has now been seen by you.
तपांसि कुरुषे भूमौ किमन्यत्प्रार्थितं तव
You perform austerities on earth—what else do you desire?
अशेषो हि प्रशांतोऽभूत्तेजसोऽस्य निरीक्षणात्
Indeed, all was pacified by beholding this radiance.
जग्राह सहसा ह्येतत्तस्य लिंगं गले स्थितम्
She suddenly seized that liṅga, which was situated at his throat.
अकरोन्मय्यविश्वासं लिंगरूपे गले स्थिते
She placed her trust in me, with the liṅga form at my throat.
मामेवाभ्यर्चयन्ध्यायन्गणनाथत्वमावसन्
By worshipping and meditating on me alone, she attained lordship over the Gaṇas.
चिरं मल्लिंगधृग्यस्मात्सिद्धिरस्यापि देव्यतः
Long has he borne the Malliṅga; thus, even his attainment comes from divinity.
न कर्त्तव्यं सदा भक्तैस्तस्माद्वै मुक्तिकांक्षिभिः
Therefore, those devoted and seeking liberation should not always perform this.
न तादृशं फलं दत्ते वज्रवत्तं निहंति च 1.3.1.12.
It does not grant such a result; rather, like a thunderbolt, it destroys.
सफला नयनावाप्तिः सर्वदोषविनाशनात्
The attainment of sight is fruitful, for it destroys all faults.
त्वामपीतकुचां चक्रे वत्सलां भक्तरक्षिणीम्
She made you, O Apītakuca, loving and the protector of devotees.
प्रायश्चित्ताभिधानेन भवापीतकुचाभिधा
By the name of expiation, you are called Bhavāpītakucā.
भज मां करुणामूर्तिरपीतकुचनायिका
Worship me, the embodiment of compassion, the leader Apītakuca.
प्रणम्य प्रार्थितवती प्रोवाच च तमंबिका
Having bowed, she prayed and Ambikā spoke to him.
एतत्ते दर्शितं तेजो दृष्टं देवैश्च मानवैः
This radiance has been shown to you, seen by gods and humans.
नक्षत्रे कृत्तिकाख्येऽस्मिंस्तेजस्ते दृश्यतां परम्
In this constellation called Kṛttikā, let your radiance be supremely visible.
दृष्ट्वा समस्तैर्दुरितैर्मुच्यतां सर्वजंतवः
Having seen it, let all beings be freed from every sin.
प्रदक्षिणं चकारैनं सखीभिः सा ततोंऽबिका
Then Ambikā, with her companions, circumambulated him.
अरुणाद्रिमयं लिंगं चक्रे मरकतप्रभम् 1.3.1.12.
She made a liṅga of Aruṇa mountain, shining like emerald.
तस्तार परितो भूमिं पद्मपत्रैः सपल्लवैः
She covered the ground all around with lotus petals and buds.
अर्चयन्तीव शोणाद्रिमभितो दृष्टिकांतिभिः
As if worshipping the red mountain with the glances of her eyes.
प्रसादिता मातृगणैर्गंधदानविभूषणैः
She was gratified by the Mothers with fragrant gifts and ornaments.
वहन्तीभिः सुरस्त्रीभिर्वृता मुनिवधूयुता
Surrounded by celestial women carrying them, together with the wives of sages.
कांक्षन्ती शिवसायुज्यं विवाहाग्निमिवाद्रिजा
Desiring union with Śiva, like the mountain-born at the wedding fire.
