They formed elephants on one side, and likewise various kinds of horses.
There were many foot soldiers there, armed with spears, tridents, and axes.
Those armies of gods and demons shone as they faced each other.
Then both armies, of the gods and the enemies of the immortals, blazed forth, roaring at each other like clouds at the onset of the rains.
Meanwhile, there they clashed with each other in close combat.
A very fierce battle took place, filled with gods and demons.
There, hundreds and thousands fell to the ground.
Mucukunda, mighty and of boundless valor in the three worlds, was present.
Then Tāraka, laughing, spoke these words after forcefully receiving that blow from the wise Mucukunda.
"What, fool, have you done today with your strength or anything else?"
Hearing Tāraka's words, Mucukunda replied:
"Having seen the fall of my sword, you do not stand before me."
Thus speaking, the mighty hero Mucukunda, son of Māndhātṛ, fell there in the midst of battle.
But at that very moment, the slayer of enemy heroes rose up again.
Then, that exceedingly powerful one prepared himself to slay the demon lord Tāraka.
Desiring to fight Tāraka, that great and swift warrior, his eyes wide with anger, confronted him.
Tāraka cannot be slain by a human; therefore, do not release that great weapon.
Hearing these words of the divine sage Nārada,
Then the great sage Nārada, radiant with divine vision, spoke.
Therefore, you must all stand together in unity as you engage in battle.
Hearing those charming and auspicious words spoken by that illustrious one,
Then drums resounded and conches were blown by those who had resolved upon action.
There the Asuras roared, having made preparations against the gods.
With many troops they approached Tāraka, the mighty one.
Then all the Pramathas, placing the young Kumāra at their head,
With tridents, spears, nooses, swords, axes, and pattiśas,
Tāraka was struck fiercely by Vīrabhadra with a trident.
And after a moment, Tāraka, the foremost of the Daityas, rose up.
Then the mighty Vīrabhadra hurled a spear at Tāraka.
Thus, as the two fought, they struck each other.
