ऋषयो यक्षगंधर्वाः परिवार्य कुमारकम् २७.
The sages, yakṣas, and gandharvas encircled the young boy.
प्रणेमुः शिरसा चान्ये मत्वा स्वामिनमव्ययम् एवमभ्युदये तस्मिन्नृषयः शांतिमापठम्॥ २७.
Others bowed their heads, considering him the eternal Lord; thus, at that auspicious moment, the sages recited prayers of peace.
एतस्मिन्नंतरे यातः शंकरो गिरिजापतिः २७.
Meanwhile, Śaṅkara, Lord of Girijā, arrived there.
पुत्रं निरैक्षत तदा जगदेकबंधुः प्रीत्या युतः परमया सह वै भवान्या २७.
Then the friend of all the worlds beheld his son, filled with supreme joy, together with Bhavānī.
उपगुह्य गुहं तत्र पार्वती जातसंभ्रमा २७.
There, Pārvatī, overwhelmed with emotion, embraced Guha.
तदा नीराजितो देवैः सकलत्रैर्मुदान्वितैः २७.
Then the gods, along with their wives, joyfully performed the nīrājana ceremony for him.
ऋषयो ब्रह्मगोषेण गीतेनैव च गायकाः २७.
The sages, with the chorus of Brahmā, and the singers, with their songs, praised him.
स्वमंकमारेप्य तदा गिरीशः कुमारकं तं प्रभया महाप्रभम् २७.
Then the Lord of the Mountain, placing the radiant boy on his own lap, shone with great splendor.
दंपती तौ तदा तत्र ऐकपद्येन नंदतुः २७.
At that time, the divine couple rejoiced there in perfect unity.
कुमारः क्रीडयामास उत्संगे शंकरस्य च २७.
The boy played in the lap of Śaṅkara.
मुखं प्रपीडयित्वाऽसौ पाणीनगणयत्तदा २७.
Then he pressed Śaṅkara’s face and counted with his hands.
प्रहस्य भगवाञ्छंभुरुवाच गिरिजां तदा॥ २७.
Śaṃbhu, the blessed one, laughed and spoke to Girijā at that moment.
मंदस्मितेन च तदा भगवान्महेशः प्राप्तो मुदंच परमां गिरिजासमेतः २७.
Then the blessed great Lord, united with Girijā, attained supreme joy with a gentle smile.
कुमारं स्वांकमारोप्य उवाच जगदीश्वरः २८.
Placing the boy on his own lap, the Lord of the universe spoke.
किं कार्यं कथ्यतां देवाः कुमारेणाधुना मम २८.
O gods, let it be told—what task is there now for my son?
तारकाद्भयमुत्पन्नं सर्वेषां जगतां विभो २८.
O Lord, fear of Tāraka has arisen among all the worlds.
कुमारेण हतोऽद्यैव तारको भविता प्रभो २८.
Today, O Lord, Tāraka will be slain by the Kumāra.
तथेति मत्वा सहसा निर्जग्मुस्ते तदा सुराः २८.
Having agreed, the gods immediately departed at that time.
सर्वे मिलित्वा सहसा ब्रह्मविष्णुपुरोगमाः २८.
All assembled swiftly, led by Brahmā and Viṣṇu.
सैन्येन महता चैव ययौ योद्धुं सुरान्प्रति २८.
With a great army, he advanced to fight against the gods.
तदा नभोगता वाणी ह्युवाच परिसांत्व्य तान् २८.
Then a voice from the sky spoke, consoling them.
दैत्यान्विजित्य संग्रामे जयिनो हि भविष्यथ॥ २८.
Having conquered the demons in battle, you will indeed be victorious.
वाचं तु खेचरीं श्रुत्वा देवाः सर्वे समुत्सुकाः २८.
Hearing the celestial voice, all the gods became eager.
युद्धकामाः सुरा यावत्तावत्सर्वे समागताः २८.
As soon as the gods desired battle, all gathered together.
ब्रह्मणा नोदिता पूर्वं तपः परममाश्रिता आगता दुहिता मृत्योः सेना नामैकसुंदरी॥ २८.
Previously urged by Brahmā, she undertook supreme austerity; the daughter of Death, named Senā, most beautiful, arrived.
तां दृष्ट्वा तेऽब्रुवन्सर्वे देवं पशुपतिं प्रति २८.
Seeing her, they all spoke to the god Paśupati.
ब्रह्मणो वचनाच्चैव कुमारेण तदा वृता २८.
By Brahmā's command, she was then chosen by the Kumāra.
तदा शंखाश्च भेर्यश्च पटहानकगोमुखाः २८.
Then conches, drums, kettledrums, and cow-horns sounded.
तेन नादेन महता पूरितं च नभस्तलम् परस्परमथोचुस्ताः सुतो मम ममेति च॥ २८.
With that great sound, the sky was filled; then they said to each other, 'He is my son, he is mine.'
एवं विवादमापन्नाः सर्वास्ता मातृकादयः २८.
Thus, all the Mothers and others fell into dispute.
