तेषां तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा परस्परजयैषिणाम् २६.
Hearing those words of theirs, spoken in the desire to defeat one another,
यूयं सर्वे वादिनश्च वेदवादरतास्तथा २६.
You all are debaters, and likewise devoted to Vedic argument.
आत्मानं परमात्मानं पराणां परमं च तत् यस्मिन्निलीयते विश्वं तस्मै सर्वात्मने नमः॥ २६.
To the Self, the Supreme Self, the highest among the supreme, in whom the universe dissolves—salutations to that all-pervading Self.
सोऽयमास्तेऽधुना गेहे पर्वतेंद्रस्य भो द्विजाः २६.
He now resides in the house of the lord of the mountains, O twice-born ones.
एवमुक्तास्तदा तेन नारदेन द्विजोत्तमाः २६.
Thus addressed by Nārada, the best of the twice-born,
वर्त्तमाने च यज्ञे च ब्रह्मा लोकपितामहः २६.
While the sacrifice was ongoing, Brahmā, the grandfather of the worlds,
दर्शनात्स्खलितः सद्यो बभूवांबुजसंभवः २६.
At the sight, the lotus-born instantly faltered.
रेतसा क्षरमाणेन लज्जितोऽभूत्पितामहः २६.
With his semen flowing, the grandfather became ashamed.
बहवश्चर्षयो जाता वालखिल्याः सहस्रशः २६.
Many sages were born, thousands of Vālakhilyas.
नारदेन तदोक्तास्ते वालखिल्याः प्रकोपिना २६.
Those Vālakhilyas, angered by what Nārada had said,
न स्थातव्यं भवद्भिश्च भवतां न प्रयोजनम् नारदेन समादिष्टा ययुः सर्वे त्वरान्विताः॥ २६.
You should not remain here; there is no purpose for you. Instructed by Nārada, they all departed quickly.
नारदेन ततो ब्रह्माऽऽश्वासितो वचनैः शुभैः २६.
Then Brahmā was reassured by Nārada with auspicious words.
महेशस्य तथा विप्राः शांतिपाठपरा बभुः २६.
Likewise, O sages, the priests devoted themselves to reciting peace-invoking hymns for Mahesha.
ततो नीराजितो देवो देवपत्नीभिरुत्तमः २६.
Then the supreme god was honored with the ceremonial waving of lights by the goddesses, his consorts.
तथा गिरीन्द्रस्य मनोरमाः शुभा नीराजयामासुरथैव योषितः २६.
In the same way, the charming and auspicious women performed the waving of lights for the lord of mountains.
रत्नानि च महार्हाणि ददौ तेभ्यो महामनाः २६.
With a generous heart, he gave them precious and costly jewels.
बभौ तदानीं सुरसिद्धसंघैर्वेद्यां स्थितोऽसौ सकलत्रको विभुः २६.
At that time, the all-pervading Lord, together with his wives, shone forth as he stood on the altar, surrounded by hosts of gods and siddhas.
एतस्मिन्नंतरे तत्र ब्रह्मविष्णुपुरोगमाः २६.
Meanwhile, there arrived Brahma, Vishnu, and the foremost among the gods.
सर्वान्समभ्यर्च्य तदा महात्मा महान्गिरीशः परमेण वर्चसा २६.
Then the great-souled Lord of the Mountain, radiant with supreme splendor, worshipped them all.
तदा शिवं पुरस्कृत्याभ्यव जह्रुः सुरेश्वराः २६.
At that time, having placed Shiva at the forefront, the lords of the gods partook of the offerings.
पंक्तीभूताश्च बुभुर्लिंगिना श्रृंगिणा सह २६.
Forming a line, they ate together with the lingin and the one bearing the horn.
अतोषयन्नारदाद्या अनेकालीकसंयुताः २६.
Narada and others, accompanied by many musicians, delighted them.
वैतालाः क्षेत्रपालाश्च बुभुजुः कृतभाजनाः २६.
The Vetalas and Kshetrapalas, having received their portions, also ate.
योगिन्योऽथ चतुः षष्टिर्योगिनो हि तथा परे २६.
Then the sixty-four yoginis, as well as other yogis, likewise partook.
एवं तु ऋषयः सर्वे तथानये विबुधादयः २६.
In this way, all the sages and likewise the other gods received their share.
योगिन्यश्चैव कथितास्तासां भक्ष्यं वदामि वः २६.
Now, I shall tell you about the food of those yoginis that has been mentioned.
भुंजंति चास्थिसंयुक्तं तथांत्राणि बुभुक्षिताः २६.
Hungering, they consume food mixed with bones and entrails.
तथा केचिन्नृत्यमानास्तदानीं रोरूय्यमाणाः प्रमथाश्चैव चान्ये २६.
At that time, some were dancing, others—the Pramathas—were howling.
योगिनीचक्रमध्यस्थो भैरवो हि ननर्त च २६.
Bhairava, standing in the midst of the circle of yoginis, also danced.
एवं तेषामुद्धवं हि निरिक्ष्य मधुसूदनः २६.
Thus, seeing their exaltation, Madhusudana (Krishna) observed.
