येये आगमिकाश्चाद्रे नष्टास्ते नात्र संशयः २५.
Those who are followers of the tradition and have perished on the mountain—there is no doubt about this.
अगोत्रोऽयं गिरिश्रेष्ठ जामाता ते न संशयः २५.
He is without lineage, O best of mountains; he is your son-in-law, without doubt.
न जानंति हरं सर्वे किं बहूक्त्या मम प्रभो २५.
No one knows Hara; why speak at length, O master?
ब्रह्मापि तं न जानाति मस्तकं परमेष्ठिनः २५.
Even Brahmā does not know the head of the Supreme Lord.
तेन लिंगेन महता ह्यगाधेन जगत्त्रयम् २५.
By that great and unfathomable liṅga, the three worlds exist.
अनयाराधितं नूनं तव पुत्र्या हिमालय २५.
Without doubt, your daughter, O Himālaya, has worshipped him with this.
आभ्यामुत्पाद्यते विश्वमाभ्यां चैव प्रतिष्ठितम् २५.
From these two the universe is produced, and by them it is sustained.
हिमाद्रिप्रमुखाः सर्वे तथा चेंद्रपुरोगमाः २५.
All, headed by Himādri, and likewise those led by Indra,
ईश्वरस्य तु गांभीर्यं ज्ञात्वा सर्वे विचक्षणाः २५.
Having understood the profundity of the Lord, all the wise ones,
यस्याज्ञया जगदिदं च विशालमेव जातं परात्परमिदं निजबोधरूपम् २५.
By whose command this vast world has arisen, which is the supreme of the supreme, and is his own form of consciousness.
अथ ते पर्वतश्रेष्ठा मेर्वाद्या जातसंभ्रमाः २६.
Then those foremost mountains, beginning with Meru, became filled with excitement.
कन्यादानं क्रियतां चाद्य शैल श्रीमाञ्छम्भुर्भाग्यतस्तेऽद्य लब्धः २६.
Let the giving of the maiden be performed today, O illustrious Śaila; Śaṃbhu, your fortune, has been obtained today.
तच्छ्रुत्वा वचनं तेषां सुहृदां वै हिमालयः इमां कन्यां तुभ्यमहं ददामि परमेश्वर॥ २६.
Himālaya, hearing the words of his friends, said: 'I give this maiden to you, O Supreme Lord.'
भार्यार्थं प्रतिगृह्णीष्वमंत्रेणानेन दत्तवान् कन्या दत्ता महेशाय गिरींद्रेण महात्मना॥ २६.
Receive her as your wife; with this mantra I have given her. The maiden was given to Maheśa by the great-souled king of mountains.
वेद्यां च बहिरानीतौ दंपतीव कमलेक्षणौ २६.
The couple, both with lotus-like eyes, were brought outside onto the altar.
आचार्येणाथ तत्रैव कश्यपेन महात्मना २६.
Then, right there, the great-souled Kāśyapa acted as the officiating priest.
ब्रह्मा ब्रह्मासनगतो बभूव शिवसन्निधौ २६.
Brahmā, seated upon the Brahmā-seat, was present in the company of Śiva.
ऊचुः परस्परं तत्र नानादर्शनवेदिनः २६.
There, those versed in various doctrines spoke among themselves.
एवमेव न चाप्येवमेवमेव न चान्यथा २६.
Just so, not otherwise; just so, not otherwise.
इत्येवं ब्रुवतां शब्दः श्रूयते शिवसन्निधौ तत्त्वज्ञानविहीनास्ते केवलं वेदबुद्धयः॥ २६.
As they spoke thus, their voices were heard in the presence of Śiva; lacking true knowledge of reality, they possessed only Vedic understanding.
तेषां तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा परस्परजयैषिणाम् २६.
Hearing those words of theirs, spoken in the desire to defeat one another,
यूयं सर्वे वादिनश्च वेदवादरतास्तथा २६.
You all are debaters, and likewise devoted to Vedic argument.
आत्मानं परमात्मानं पराणां परमं च तत् यस्मिन्निलीयते विश्वं तस्मै सर्वात्मने नमः॥ २६.
To the Self, the Supreme Self, the highest among the supreme, in whom the universe dissolves—salutations to that all-pervading Self.
सोऽयमास्तेऽधुना गेहे पर्वतेंद्रस्य भो द्विजाः २६.
He now resides in the house of the lord of the mountains, O twice-born ones.
एवमुक्तास्तदा तेन नारदेन द्विजोत्तमाः २६.
Thus addressed by Nārada, the best of the twice-born,
वर्त्तमाने च यज्ञे च ब्रह्मा लोकपितामहः २६.
While the sacrifice was ongoing, Brahmā, the grandfather of the worlds,
दर्शनात्स्खलितः सद्यो बभूवांबुजसंभवः २६.
At the sight, the lotus-born instantly faltered.
रेतसा क्षरमाणेन लज्जितोऽभूत्पितामहः २६.
With his semen flowing, the grandfather became ashamed.
बहवश्चर्षयो जाता वालखिल्याः सहस्रशः २६.
Many sages were born, thousands of Vālakhilyas.
नारदेन तदोक्तास्ते वालखिल्याः प्रकोपिना २६.
Those Vālakhilyas, angered by what Nārada had said,
