Beholding Śambhu, for whose sake she had performed supreme austerity.
Through that austerity, she attained him who is the life of all living beings.
Likewise, by Gaṅgā and others, and by sages such as Sanaka, she was worshipped by Śiva with offerings of water, rice, and so forth.
Thus, Parvati and the Supreme Lord mutually honored each other.
Clad in the splendor of the three worlds, gazing upon one another, the divine couple, Parvati and the Supreme Lord, were observed by Arundhati.
Anasuya likewise gazed upon Śambhu and the illustrious Parvati.
In the same way, all the wives of the twice-born repeatedly performed the ritual of waving lamps.
Meanwhile, there, prompted by the teacher Garga—
Menā, taking a golden vessel, approached the cow for the ritual.
Then, Himādri spoke: Viśvanātha, bestower of boons—
Together with the officiating priest, the great-souled Garga—
Let the ritual be declared, O Brahman, now that the time has arrived.
Tell us, dear one, your lineage and family in detail; with a pleasant face, one who was once sorrowful has now become joyful.
Thus, at that time, by the best of gods and sages, and likewise by hosts of Gandharvas, Yakshas, sages, and Siddhas—
Then Nārada, son of Brahmā, began to play the vīṇā.
Thus addressed by Himavat, Nārada spoke these words.
His lineage and family are indeed from sound alone, O mountain.
Therefore, Śaṃbhu is composed of sound, and he is attained through sound.
His lineage, family, and name are not known, O mountain.
You have fallen into ignorance; you do not know anything.
Those who are followers of the tradition and have perished on the mountain—there is no doubt about this.
He is without lineage, O best of mountains; he is your son-in-law, without doubt.
No one knows Hara; why speak at length, O master?
Even Brahmā does not know the head of the Supreme Lord.
By that great and unfathomable liṅga, the three worlds exist.
Without doubt, your daughter, O Himālaya, has worshipped him with this.
From these two the universe is produced, and by them it is sustained.
All, headed by Himādri, and likewise those led by Indra,
Having understood the profundity of the Lord, all the wise ones,
By whose command this vast world has arisen, which is the supreme of the supreme, and is his own form of consciousness.
