ऋग्यजुःसामसहितैः सूक्तैर्नानाविधैस्तथा २३.
With hymns from the Rig, Yajur, and Sama Vedas, and with various kinds of sacred chants,
अभ्यंजनादिकं सर्वं चक्रुस्तस्य परात्मनः २३.
They performed all the anointing and related rites for that Supreme Self.
अनेकैर्मौक्तिकैर्युक्ता मुण्डमालाऽभवत्तदा बभूवुर्मडनान्येव जातरूपमयानि च॥ २३.
Then, the garland of skulls became adorned with many pearls, and other garlands appeared, made entirely of gold.
सर्वभूषणसंपन्नो देवदेवो महेश्वरः २३.
The great god, Maheshvara, was adorned with all kinds of ornaments.
चंडिका वरभगिनी तदा जाता भयावहा २३.
At that time, Chandika, the best of sisters, was born, terrifying in form.
हैमं कलशमादाय पूर्णं मूर्ध्ना महाप्रभा २३.
She, of great radiance, took up a golden pitcher filled to the brim, upon her head.
तत्र भूतान्यनेकानि विरूपाणि सहस्रशः २३.
There, thousands of various beings with strange forms appeared.
तस्याः सर्वे पृष्ठतश्च गणाः परमदारुणाः २३.
All her hosts, exceedingly fierce, stood behind her.
तदा डमरुनिर्घोषव्याप्तमासीज्जगत्त्रयम् २३.
Then, the sound of the damaru drum filled the three worlds.
तथा दुंदुभिनिर्घोषैः शब्दः कोलाहलोऽभवत् अन्वयुः सर्वसिद्धाश्च लोकपालैः समन्विताः॥ २३.
Likewise, with the booming of kettledrums, a tumultuous noise arose; all the perfected beings, accompanied by the guardians of the worlds, joined in.
मध्ये व्रजन्महेंद्रोऽथ ऐरावतमुपास्थितः २३.
In the midst, the great Indra advanced, attended by Airavata.
चामरैर्वीज्यमानोऽसौ सुरैर्बहुभिरावृतः २३.
He was fanned with chāmaras and surrounded by many gods.
भरद्वाजादयो विप्राः शिवस्योद्वहनं प्रति २३.
Bharadvaja and other sages were present for Shiva’s wedding.
भूतप्रेतपिशाचाश्च तथान्ये प्रमथादयः २३.
Also present were bhutas, pretas, pishachas, and others such as the Pramathas.
क्व गता साऽधुना चंडी धावमानास्तदा भृशम् २३.
Where did that fierce Caṇḍī, running swiftly, go at that time?
अथ प्रोचुस्तदा सर्वे चंडीं भैरवसंयुताम् २३.
Then all of them spoke to Caṇḍī, who was accompanied by Bhairava.
प्रहस्योवाच सा चंडी भूतानां तत्र श्रृण्वताम् २३.
There, as the beings listened, Caṇḍī laughed and replied.
हैमं कलशमादाय शिरसा बिभ्रती स्वयम् २३.
She herself bore a golden pitcher upon her head.
भूतैः परिवृता सर्वैः सर्वेषामग्रतोऽव्रजत् २३.
Surrounded on all sides by all the beings, she walked at the front of them all.
इंद्रादयो लोकपाला ऋषयस्तेऽग्रपृष्ठतः २३.
The guardians of the worlds, beginning with Indra, and the sages followed behind her.
विष्णोरमितभावज्ञा मुकुंदाच्च मनोरमाः श्रीवत्सांकधराः सर्वे पीतवासोन्विताश्च ते॥ २३.
Those who know the immeasurable nature of Viṣṇu, delightful ones from Mukunda, all bearing the mark of Śrīvatsa and clad in yellow garments, were there.
चतुर्भुजाः कुंडलिनः किरीटकटकांगदैः शोभिताः सर्व एवैते महापुरुषलक्षणाः॥ २३.
All of them were four-armed, adorned with earrings, crowns, bracelets, and armlets, possessing the marks of great persons.
तेषां मध्ये गतो विष्णुः श्रियोपेतः सुरारिहा॥ २३.
In their midst stood Viṣṇu, destroyer of the gods' enemies, together with Śrī.
बभौ त्रिलोकीकृतविश्वमंगलो महानुभावैर्हृदि कृत्य धिष्ठितः २३.
He shone, auspicious to the three worlds, established in the hearts of the great by his mighty qualities.
स तार्क्ष्यपुत्रोपरि संस्थितो महाँल्लक्ष्म्या समेतो भुवनैकभर्ता २३.
He, the sole lord of the worlds, stood upon Garuḍa, joined with great Lakṣmī.
तथा विरिंचिर्निजवाहनस्थो वेदैः समेतः सह षड्भिरंगैः २३.
Likewise, Brahmā, seated on his own vehicle, was present, accompanied by the Vedas and their six limbs.
वेधोहरिभ्यां च तदा सुरेद्रैः समावृतश्चर्षिभिः संपरीतः २३.
Then Brahmā and Hari, surrounded by the gods and attended by the sages, were present there.
शुद्धस्फटिकसंकाशं वृषभं धर्मवत्सलम् २३.
There was a bull, pure as crystal, devoted to righteousness.
एभिस्समेतोऽसुरदानवैः सह ययौ महेशो विबुदैरलंकृतः २३.
Accompanied by these, and together with the gods and asuras, great Maheśa proceeded, adorned by the wise.
तथैव सर्वं परया मुदान्वितश्चक्रे गिरींद्रः स्वसुतार्थमेव २४.
In the same way, the lord of mountains, filled with supreme joy, did everything for the sake of his own daughter.
