He who, deformed by Daksha's curse, became an outcaste from the sacrifice, a mendicant.
Rudra, smeared with ashes from corpses, clad in a hide, truly inauspicious.
What is to be done by that Rudra with this delicate one?
Having rejected Indra, the charming one, and Yama, the greatly illustrious,
And Kubera, and Vayu, and likewise Agni—while her friends listened, there she remained in austerity.
Hearing thus the words of that Rudra in the form of a mendicant,
You, O victorious and virtuous one, be triumphant, even over Pramlocha, O beautiful one.
What business does this mendicant have now with you ladies here?
Let this one be dismissed, friends; what purpose does he serve?
Mendicant, go quickly, hasten; you must not remain here now.
Thus, when rebuked there by her, the mendicant again—
Slowly, slowly, without falsehood, he approached Vijaya swiftly.
Whatever is to be said by all, that speech alone is truly well-spoken.
He who is called Shambhu in the world, a beggar, fond of beggars.
This one is indeed beautiful, but that Sadashiva is deformed.
How could she be deluded by such a Rudra as this?
How is she deluded by the attributeless one, who is the essence of the ages?
Sadashiva is indeed difficult to attain for beings who are full of desire.
For the unmoving one is always steadfast; how could she obtain such a husband?
As long as anger exists among men, and especially among women,
Good deeds and accumulated merit, O slender one, truly spoken, indeed,
Are destroyed by violence, jealousy, and deceit; thus, all is ruined by these.
If the Lord is to be realized always in the heart’s center by the wise, as pure consciousness,
Hearing these words of Śambhu, Vijayā then spoke all this.
Thus, as he was disputing, that ascetic form of Sadāśiva,
At once, Maheśa vanished from Girijā’s sight.
Then suddenly he appeared, assuming his own true form.
At that time, the Lord of gods, abiding in the heart, became visible to the outward eye; she beheld the Lord of all gods, the great Lord of all worlds.
He had two arms, one face, and was wondrous, clad in a tiger skin.
At that time, great serpents, Kambala and Aśvatara, were at his ears.
