When all had departed, Bhava remained absorbed in meditation.
He became established in what is beyond the highest, pure, spotless, and free from obstruction.
The sun does not shine, nor fire, nor the moon; thus, there is no light, nor wind at all.
It is indescribable, inconceivable, changeless, and free from affliction.
Beyond sound, without qualities, changeless, pure existence, knowable by knowledge, yet unattainable.
That reality is the Lord, the ruler, the wielder of the Pinaka bow, the blessed one, the bull-bannered.
Girijā, the goddess, then performed supreme austerity.
Having conquered through her austerity, the goddess Parvati by the highest means.
When the bull-bannered one was conquered by the goddess through her austerity.
The god of gods, wielder of the Pinaka bow, came swiftly.
He placed her upon the altar, just as one places a digit of the moon.
In the form of a celibate, the great Lord, the blessed Bhava, asked: 'Why does this slender, beautiful woman stand among the garlanded ones?'
Who is she, whose daughter, from where has she come, and for what purpose does she perform austerity?
Then Jayā spoke to Rudra, the supreme cause of her austerity.
She is the daughter of Himādrī, performing austerity for Rudra, the Lord.
She performed a great austerity, difficult for all to surpass.
Hearing her words, he laughed and spoke thus.
This Parvati is foolish, friends; she does not know what is beneficial or harmful.
He is inauspicious, a skull-bearer, and dwells in the cremation ground.
When Rudra is chosen by her, friends, he will come together with her.
He who, deformed by Daksha's curse, became an outcaste from the sacrifice, a mendicant.
Rudra, smeared with ashes from corpses, clad in a hide, truly inauspicious.
What is to be done by that Rudra with this delicate one?
Having rejected Indra, the charming one, and Yama, the greatly illustrious,
And Kubera, and Vayu, and likewise Agni—while her friends listened, there she remained in austerity.
Hearing thus the words of that Rudra in the form of a mendicant,
You, O victorious and virtuous one, be triumphant, even over Pramlocha, O beautiful one.
What business does this mendicant have now with you ladies here?
Let this one be dismissed, friends; what purpose does he serve?
Mendicant, go quickly, hasten; you must not remain here now.
