सभाग्योऽहं महादेव प्रसादात्तव शंकर २१.
I am fortunate, O Mahādeva, by your grace, O Śaṅkara.
अनया सह देवेश अनुज्ञां दातुर्महसि २१.
With her, O lord of the gods, grant me permission for this great act.
आगंतव्यं त्वया नित्यं दर्शनार्थं ममाचल २१.
You must always come to my mountain for the sake of seeing me.
अचलः प्रत्युवाचेदं गिरिशं नतकंधरः अचलं च व्रीत शंभुः प्रहसन्वाक्यमब्रवीत्॥ २१.
The mountain, bowing his neck, replied to Girisha; and Śambhu, smiling, addressed the mountain.
इयं कुमारी सुश्रोणी तन्वी चारुप्रभाषिणी २१.
This maiden, with beautiful hips, slender form, and charming speech.
एतच्छ्रुत्वा वचनं तस्य शंभोर्निरामयं निःस्पृहनिष्ठुरं वा २१.
Hearing these words of Śaṃbhu, which were pure, dispassionate, and harsh.
तपःशक्त्यान्वितः शंभो करोषि विपुलं तपः २१.
Endowed with the power of asceticism, O Śaṃbhu, you perform great austerities.
कस्त्वं का प्रकृतिः सूक्ष्मा भगवंस्तद्विमृश्यताम् २१.
Who are you? What is your subtle nature, O Lord? Let this be considered.
तपसा परमेणैव प्रकृतिं नाशयाम्यहम् तस्माच्च प्रकृते सिद्धैर् कार्यः संग्रहः क्वचित्॥ २१.
By supreme austerity alone, I destroy nature; and from that, sometimes, accomplished ones gather its results.
यदुक्तं परया वाचा वचननं शंकर त्वया २१.
What was spoken in the highest speech, O Śaṃkara, by you.
यच्छृणोपि यदश्रासि यच्च पश्यसि शंकर २१.
Whatever you hear, whatever you do not hear, whatever you see, O Śaṃkara.
तत्सर्वं प्रकृतेः कार्यं मिथ्यावादो निर्र्थकः २१.
All that is the effect of nature; false talk, meaningless.
त्वया शंभोऽधुना ह्यस्मिन्गिरौ हिमवति प्रभो २१.
By you, O Śaṃbhu, now on this mountain, Himalaya, O Lord.
वाग्वादेन च किं कार्यमस्माकं चाधुना प्रभो तर्हि त्वया न भेतव्यं मम शंकर संप्रति॥ २१.
What purpose is there for us now in verbal debate, O Lord? Therefore, you need not fear me, O Śaṃkara, at this time.
प्रहस्य भगवान्देवो गिरिजां प्रत्युवाच ह॥ २१.
Smiling, the blessed god spoke to Girijā.
प्रत्यहं कुरु मे सेवां गिरिजे साधुभाषिणि॥ २१.
Serve me daily, O Girijā, you who speak kindly.
तपस्तप्तुमनुज्ञा मे दातव्या पर्वताधिप २१.
Permission must be given to me by the lord of the mountain to perform austerity.
एतच्छ्रुत्वा वचस्तस्य देवदेवस्य शूलिनः २१.
Hearing these words of the god of gods, the wielder of the trident.
त्वदीयं हि जगत्सर्वं सदेवासुरमानुषम् २१.
Indeed, all your world, with gods, demons, and humans.
एवमुक्तो हिमवता शंकरो लोकशंकरः २१.
Thus addressed by Himavat, Śaṃkara, the benefactor of the world.
शंकरेणाब्यनुज्ञातः स्वगृहं हिमवान्ययौ २१.
Having been permitted by Śaṃkara, Himavat went to his own house.
एवं कतिपयः कालो गतश्चोपासनात्तयोः॥ २१.
Thus, a few moments passed in their worship.
सुतापित्रोश्च तत्रैव शंकरो दुरतिक्रमः २१.
There, Śaṃkara, the son of the father and mother, is impossible to overcome.
ते चिंत्यमानाश्च सुरास्तदानीं कथं महेशो गिरिजां समेष्यति २१.
Then the gods wondered how Mahādeva would unite with Girijā.
बृहस्पतिरुवाचेदं महेंद्रं प्रति सद्वचः २१.
Bṛhaspati spoke these noble words to Mahendra.
एतत्कार्यं मदनेनैव राजन्नान्यः समर्थो भविता त्रिलोके २१.
This task can only be accomplished by Madana, O King; no one else in the three worlds is capable.
गुरोर्वचनमाकर्ण्य आह्वयन्मदनं हरिः २१.
Hearing the teacher's words, Hari summoned Madana.
रत्या समेतः सह माधवेन स पुष्पधन्वा पुरतः सभायाम् २१.
Joined by Rati and accompanied by Mādhava, the wielder of the flower-bow appeared before the assembly.
अहमाकारितः कस्माद्ब्रूहि मेऽद्य शचीपते २१.
Tell me, O lord of Śacī, why have I been called today?
मम स्मरणमात्रेण विभ्रष्टा हि तपस्विनः २१.
By merely remembering me, ascetics lose their austerity.
