आशरीरं च तद्वाक्यं श्रुत्वा ब्रह्मादयः सुराः १७.
Hearing that bodiless voice, Brahmā and the other gods—
कथमर्चामहे लिंगं केनैव विधिना ततः १७.
asked: 'How should we worship the liṅga, and by what method?'
कानि पुष्पाणि सायाह्ने मध्याह्ने च तथैव हि १७.
'Which flowers are to be used in the evening and at midday as well?'
तदा नभोगता वाणी कथयामास विस्तरम्॥ १७.
Then the voice from the sky began to explain in detail.
करवीरं चार्कपुष्पं बृहतीपुष्पमेवच १७.
'Karavīra, arka flowers, and flowers of bṛhatī—
आरग्वधं च पुन्नागं बकुलं नागकेशरम् १७.
āragvadha, punnāga, bakula, and nāgakeśara—
बहूनि वरपुष्पाणि बहूनि कमलान्यपि १७.
many excellent flowers and many kinds of lotuses as well—
जातीपुष्पं मल्लिकायाश्च पुष्पं पुष्पं मोगरकं नीलपुष्पं तथैव १७.
jāti flowers, mallikā, mogara, and blue flowers too—
एतान्येव य पुष्पाणि मध्याह्ने लिंगपूजने १७.
these indeed are the flowers for worshipping the liṅga at midday.
चं पकानि त्रिकाले च पवित्राणि न संशयः १७.
These flowers are pure for worship at all three times; there is no doubt.
एवमर्च्चनभेदांश्च ज्ञात्वा तल्लिंगपूजने १७.
Thus, knowing these different forms of worship for the liṅga—
वृषभांतरितो भूत्वा पीठिकांतरमेव च १७.
standing between the bull and the pedestal—
तथा ह्यनेन शक्रेण कृतं चैव प्रदक्षिणम् १७.
thus, Indra himself performed circumambulation in this manner.
ग्रसितोऽद्यैव वृत्रेण सगजो हि पुरंदरः १७.
Today, Purandara along with his elephant has been swallowed by Vṛtra.
महारुद्रविधानेन मुक्तो भवति तत्क्षणात् १७.
By the great Rudra rite, he is freed at that very moment.
तेनैव वचसा देवा रुद्रमभ्यर्च्य यत्नतः १७.
By that very instruction, the gods worshipped Rudra with devotion.
तथा चैकादशीरुद्र्या रुद्रमभ्यर्च्य वै सुराः १७.
And so, with the Ekādaśa Rudra hymn, the gods indeed worshipped Rudra.
जपं च पूजां हवनं च चक्रुर्विमोक्तुकामाः सहसा पुरंदरम् १७.
Desiring to free Purandara at once, they performed recitation, worship, and offering.
तं निर्गतं समीक्ष्याथ देवदेवेंद्रमोजसा श्रिया परमया युक्तं पुरंदरं महौजसम्॥ १७.
Then, seeing him emerge—the Lord of the gods, Indra, radiant with supreme splendor and endowed with great might—
देवदुंदुभयो नेदुस्तथा शंखा ह्यनेकशः १७.
The divine drums resounded, and many conches were blown in celebration.
एकपद्येन सर्वेषां महाहर्षो दिवौकसाम् तदा शची समायाता यत्र मुक्तः पुरंदरः॥ १७.
At that moment, all the gods were filled with immense joy, and Śacī arrived where Indra had been released.
तत्र शच्या समेतोऽसावभिषिक्तो महर्षिभिः १७.
There, united with Śacī, he was consecrated by the great sages.
एवं तदाभिषिक्तोऽसौ महेंद्र ऋषिभिः पुनः १७.
Thus, at that time, Mahendra was again anointed by the sages.
दिशः प्रसन्नतां याता निर्मलं चाभवन्नभः १७.
The directions became clear, and the sky turned spotless.
एवमादीन्यनेकानि मंगलानि ततोऽभवन् १७.
Then, many auspicious signs of various kinds appeared.
एवं प्रवर्तमाने तु महतां च महोत्सवे १७.
As that great festival of the mighty was taking place—
तत्रैव ब्रह्महत्या च पापिष्ठा पतिता भुवि १७.
Right there, the terrible Brahmahatyā (the sin of Brahminicide) fell to the earth.
पुण्यभूमिरिति ख्याता प्रसिद्धा लोकपावनी १७.
That place became renowned as sacred ground, famous as the purifier of the worlds.
मलस्य बहुसंभूत्या मालावेति प्रकीर्तिता १७.
Because of the accumulation of much impurity, it came to be called Mālāva.
षण्मासेष्वपतत्सर्वैः कृत्तं देवैः सवासवैः १७.
In six months, all the gods along with their attendants removed it.
