तदैव तं स फेनेन शीघ्रमिंद्रो जघान ह॥ १७.
Then, at that very moment, Indra swiftly struck him with the foam.
हते तु नमुचौ देवाः सर्वे चैव मुदान्विताः १७.
When Namuci was slain, all the gods became filled with joy.
तदा सर्वे जयं प्राप्ता हत्वा नमुचिमाहवे १७.
Then, having slain Namuci in battle, all attained victory.
पुनः प्रववृते युद्धं देवानां दानवैः सह १७.
Again, a conflict arose between the gods and the demons.
यदा ते ह्यसुरा देवैः पातिताश्च पुनःपुनः १७.
Whenever those demons were repeatedly struck down by the gods,
वृत्रं दृष्ट्वा तदा सर्वे ससुरासुरमानवाः १७.
Upon seeing Vṛtra, all—gods, demons, and humans—
एवं भीतेषु सर्वेषु सुरसिद्धेषु वै तदा १७.
Thus, when all the gods and siddhas were fearful,
छत्रेण ध्रियमाणेन चामरेण विराजितः १७.
Adorned with a parasol held above and shining with a fly-whisk,
वृत्रं विलोक्य ते सर्वे लोकपाला महेश्वराः १७.
Upon beholding Vṛtra, all the guardians of the worlds, the great lords,
मनसाचिंतयन्सर्वे शंकरं लोकशंकरम् १७.
All contemplated in their minds Śaṃkara, the benefactor of the worlds.
गुरुणा विदितः सद्यो विश्वासेन परेण हि १७.
At once, the guru perceived this with supreme confidence.
कार्तिके शुक्लपक्षे तु मंदवारे त्रयोदशी १७.
In the month of Kārtika, on the bright fortnight, on a Monday, the thirteenth day,
तस्यां प्रदोषसमये लिंगरूपी सदाशिवः १७.
At twilight on that day, Sadāśiva appears in the form of a liṅga.
स्नात्वा मध्याह्नसमये तिलामलकसंयुतम् १७.
After bathing at midday, with sesame and amalaki,
पश्चात्प्रदोषवेलायां स्थावरं लिंगमर्च्चयेत् १७.
Afterwards, at the time of twilight, one should worship the immovable liṅga.
जने वा विजने वापि अरण्ये वा तपोवने १७.
Whether among people, alone, in the forest, or in a sacred grove,
ग्रामद्बहिः स्थितं लिंगं ग्रामाच्छतगुणं फलम् १७.
A liṅga situated outside the village yields a hundredfold fruit compared to one within.
आरण्याच्छतगुणं पुण्यमर्चितं पार्वतं यथा तपोवनाश्रितं लिंगं पूजितं वा महाफलम्॥ १७.
Worshipped in the forest, the merit is a hundredfold, as with a mountain; a liṅga honored in a sacred grove brings great reward.
तस्मादेतद्विभागेन शिवपूजनार्चनं बुधैः १७.
Therefore, wise ones perform Śiva's worship and adoration according to this distinction.
पंचपिंडान्समुद्धृत्य स्नानमात्रेण शोभनम् १७.
By simply bathing and removing the five lumps, it becomes auspicious.
तडागे दश पिंडांश्च उद्धृत्य स्नानमाचरेत् १७.
One should take out ten balls of rice from the pond and then bathe.
सर्वेषामपि तीर्थानां गंगास्नानं विशिष्यते १७.
Bathing in the Ganga surpasses bathing at all other sacred places.
प्रदीपानां सहस्रेण दीपनीयः सदाशिवः १७.
Sadashiva should be illumined with a thousand lamps.
घृतेन दीपयेद्दीपाञ्छिवस्य परितुष्टये १७.
One should light lamps with ghee for the satisfaction of Shiva.
उपचारैः षोडशभिर्लिंगरूपी सदा शिवः १७.
Shiva, in the form of the linga, should always be worshipped with sixteen offerings.
प्रदक्षिणं प्रकुर्वीत शतमष्टोत्तरं तथा १७.
One should perform one hundred and eight circumambulations.
प्रदक्षिणनमस्कारैः पूजनीयः सदाशिवः १७.
Sadashiva should always be worshipped with circumambulations and salutations.
नमो रुद्राय भीमाय नीलकण्ठाय वेधसे १७.
Salutations to Rudra, the Terrible, the Blue-Throated, the Creator.
वृषध्वजाय सोमाय नीलकण्ठाय वै नमः १७.
Salutations to the Bull-bannered, to Soma, to the Blue-Throated indeed.
तपोमयाय व्याप्ताय शिपिविष्टाय वै नमः १७.
Salutations to the one made of austerity, all-pervading, and shining forth.
