With the thunderbolt, the king of the gods himself struck Namuci with force.
Even with the thunderbolt, at that time, all were seized by utmost astonishment.
He struck Namuci with the mace, but that mace was also shattered.
Likewise, Purandara struck him with a great spear.
Thus, the destroyer of the enemies of the gods struck him with various weapons.
Then Indra became silent, filled with deep thought.
At that very moment, in that great battle and terrible danger,
O Mahendra, today you must quickly slay this demon, the dreadful bringer of fear to the gods.
Struck by any other weapon, he is never killed; but by this, he can be destroyed.
Hearing that divine speech, filled with ultimate truth, ever bringing joy and auspiciousness,
Then, seeing him arrive, Namuci, overcome with anger,
Why, O best of gods, have you come here from the shore of the ocean?
What have you done to me, wicked one, with your own thunderbolt?
And with many other weapons and missiles as well,
What will you do to kill me, now that you have come for battle?
I will slay you today itself, if you stand firm in the fight.
Thus, his boastful words, shining in the midst of battle,
When the demons saw the foam in his hand, they laughed at that moment.
All the missiles had been exhausted, and Purandara held only the foam.
Thus, Namuci laughed, not recognizing Purandara.
Then, at that very moment, Indra swiftly struck him with the foam.
When Namuci was slain, all the gods became filled with joy.
Then, having slain Namuci in battle, all attained victory.
Again, a conflict arose between the gods and the demons.
Whenever those demons were repeatedly struck down by the gods,
Upon seeing Vṛtra, all—gods, demons, and humans—
Thus, when all the gods and siddhas were fearful,
Adorned with a parasol held above and shining with a fly-whisk,
Upon beholding Vṛtra, all the guardians of the worlds, the great lords,
All contemplated in their minds Śaṃkara, the benefactor of the worlds.
