Hearing the words of the gods, the sage replied.
I will give; there is no doubt. My word is never otherwise.
We are frightened, O sage, and have come desiring to see you.
Know that we have arrived; you ought to give all that is needed, O virtuous one.
Hearing their words, he said: Let it be told what is to be given.
Then the gods spoke: O sage, it is for the destruction of the demons.
The sage, smiling, said: Remain here for just a moment.
Having said this to them, he then called his wife, Suvarcasa.
Asked by the gods for my bones, I relinquish this body.
When I depart for Brahma's world, you, by your own duty, should remember me there.
Having spoken thus to his wife, he sent her away to the hermitage.
With supreme concentration, he abandoned his own body.
Dadichi, foremost among the assembly of sages, beloved of Shiva, devoted to Shiva's initiation.
Then all the hosts of gods, seeing him gone to dissolution,
Summoned Surabhi, and then the lord of Shachi spoke.
Having replied, 'So be it,' she immediately licked it.
They took those bones and the gods fashioned weapons.
And many other bones of that sage, the gods took at that time.
Having made weapons, all those of great strength and valor,
Then Suvarcā, Dadichi's wife, who had been sent for the accomplishment of the gods' purpose,
Learning all this, the work of the gods at that time, the virtuous woman became angry.
Ah, the gods are all most wicked, all powerless, and likewise greedy.
Thus, that ascetic woman pronounced a curse upon those gods.
The embryo departed from the womb of the great-souled Dadichi.
Laughing, the mother addressed the embryo, her eyes blazing with anger.
O most fortunate one, you will be fruitful for all under the Ashvattha tree; the virtuous woman followed her husband with supreme concentration.
Thus, that wife of Dadhīci went to heaven together with her husband.
Those gods, having obtained weapons and missiles, were eager to confront the daityas.
Then, with their teacher at the forefront and by his command, many hosts of the gods assembled.
Approaching those who had gathered, the gods, with Indra at their head, drew near.
