आयातः सोऽमरावत्यां त्रिदशैरभितोषितः १५.
He arrived at Amaravati and was honored by the gods.
नारदेनैवमुक्तस्तु त्वं राजा याज्ञिको ह्यसि १५.
Thus addressed by Narada, you are indeed a king devoted to sacrifice.
ये प्राप्नुवंति धर्मिष्ठा दैवेन परमं पदम् १५.
Those who are most righteous attain the supreme state by divine means.
पतंति नरके घोरे स्तब्धा वै नात्र संशयः॥ १५.
But the arrogant surely fall into terrible hell—there is no doubt of this.
यैः कृतं पुण्यं तेषां विघ्नः प्रजायते १५.
Obstacles arise for those whose merit has been gained.
महादानानि दत्तानि अन्नदानयुतानि च १५.
Great gifts have been given, along with gifts of food.
तथैव सर्वाण्यपि चोत्तमानि दानानि चोक्तानि मनीषिभिर्यदा १५.
Likewise, all the highest gifts spoken of by the wise have also been given.
यज्ञैरिष्टं वाजपेयातिरात्रैर्ज्योतिष्टोमै राजसूयादिभिश्च १५.
Sacrifices have been performed—Vajapeya, Atiratra, Jyotishtoma, Rajasuya, and others.
देवदेवो जगन्नाथ इष्टो यज्ञैरनेकशः १५.
The god of gods, lord of the universe, has been worshipped many times through sacrifices.
पत्नीत्वेन चतुर्भ्यश्च दत्ताः कन्या मुने तदा १५.
At that time, daughters were also given as wives to four sages.
एवं भूतान्यनेकानि सुकृतानि मया पुरा १५.
In this way, many virtuous deeds were performed by me in the past.
भूयः पृष्टः सर्वदेवैः स राजा कृतं सर्वं गुप्तमेव यथार्थम् १५.
Again questioned by all the gods, that king truthfully recounted everything that had been done, keeping nothing hidden.
वचो निशम्य देवानां ययातिरमितद्युतिः १५.
Hearing the words of the gods, Yayati of boundless splendor—
कथितं सर्वमेतच्च निःशेषं व्यासवत्तदा १५.
All this was then narrated completely, just as it happened, by Vyasa.
तत्क्षणादेव सर्वेषां सुराणां तत्र पश्यताम् १५.
At that very moment, in the sight of all the gods there—
अन्यो न दृश्यते लोके याज्ञिको यो हि तत्र वै १५.
No other sacrificer like him was seen in the world at that time.
सर्वे सुराश्च ऋषयोऽथ महाफणींद्रा गन्धर्वयक्षखगचारणकिंनराश्च १५.
All the gods, sages, great serpent lords, Gandharvas, Yakshas, birds, Charanas, and Kinnaras—
ततः शची तान्प्रोवाच वाचं धर्मार्थसंयुताम् १६.
Then Shachi spoke to them words joined with righteousness and purpose.
गच्छत त्वरिताः सर्वे शक्रं द्रष्टुं विचक्षणाः १६.
All of you, wise ones, go quickly to see Śakra.
बहूनां कारणेनैव विश्वरूपे हि मंदधीः १६.
Indeed, because of many reasons, my mind is unsettled regarding Viśvarūpa.
तस्मात्सर्वैर्भवद्भिश्च गंतव्यं यत्र स प्रभुः १६.
Therefore, all of you must go to where that Lord is.
अवज्ञामात्रक्षुबंधेन त्वया शप्तः पुरंदरः १६.
Purandara has been cursed by you due only to a slight of disrespect.
निरस्तोऽपि हि तस्मात्त्वमवसानपरो भव॥ १६.
Even though you have cast him out, you should remain intent on the outcome.
यथा मदर्थमानीतौ शक्रे जीवति तावुभौ १६.
As long as Śakra lives, both of them should be brought for my sake.
कोऽपि सौभाग्यवाँल्लोके तव क्षेत्रे जनिष्यति १६.
Someone fortunate will be born in your domain in this world.
गच्छ शीघ्रं सुरैःसार्द्धं शक्रमानय म चिरम् १६.
Go quickly with the gods and bring Śakra without delay.
शच्योक्तं वचनं श्रुत्वा सुरैः सार्द्धं जगाम सः १६.
Hearing Śacī's words, he went together with the gods.
सरसस्तीरमासाद्य ते शक्रं चाभ्यवादयन् १६.
Reaching the bank of the lake, they greeted Śakra.
उवाच देवानेदेवेशः कस्माद्यूयमिहागताः अप्सु तिष्ठामि भो देवा एकाकी तपसान्वितः॥ १६.
The lord of the gods spoke: 'Why have you all come here? I dwell alone in the waters, engaged in austerity.'
तच्छ्रुत्वा वचनं तस्य सर्वे देवाः शतक्रतोः १६.
Hearing his words, all the gods and Śatakratu listened.
