Accompanied by the army of the gods, he at once reached heaven; all the yakṣas, gandharvas, and kinnaras rejoiced.
Then Indra was anointed in Amarāvatī by Śacī, with joy.
And likewise, by the foremost of the divine sages and by the foremost of the Brahmanical sages,
Then, O Brahmins, there arose a great festival in the realm of the gods; likewise, trumpets and drums resounded together.
And the singers, Gandharvas, Kinnaras, and hosts of Apsaras,
Thus, at that time, Śakra, the lord of the gods, attained victory.
These great-souled ones, headed by Bali, have departed from life.
He went, surrounded by his disciples, and thus does not know of that battle.
Thus has been told the great and steadfast destruction of the Asuras.
Having been surrounded by his disciples, he even revived those dead Asuras.
Just as those who have gone into sleep rise again, so did those Asuras then arise.
What use is life to me now, today I have no purpose for it.
Hearing these words spoken by Bali, Śukra then spoke these words:
Those who are slain at once by weapons, as they are dying, indeed go
Thus did the descendant of Bhṛgu comfort Bali.
Likewise, all the Daityas, urged on by Bhṛgu, departed.
Indra indeed attained the kingdom, as has been told to you, without a guru.
By whom was Indra inspired to remain long upon the throne?
Even without a guru, the lord of Śacī maintained the kingdom.
O Brahmins, Viśvarūpa, the son of Viśvakarman, was a great king.
In that sacrifice, by means of offerings, he worshipped both the Asuras and the Suras.
He gave to the gods with loud proclamation, but to the Daityas he gave silently.
Once, being prompted by Mahendra due to the distinction of importance and insignificance—
He granted the offering for the accomplishment of the Daityas’ purpose.
Thinking thus, then Shakra struck with the thunderbolt having a hundred spikes.
By that act, the drinking of Soma was performed, and the kapiñjala birds were born.
From other sounds were born the tittiri birds, of various forms.
From that, the sin of Brahmin-killing arose, formidable and terrifying.
Brahmin-killing, drinking of liquor, theft, and union with the wife of the teacher—
And the utterance of Vishnu’s name—these are the domains of thought.
