Then the great-souled one, surrounded by hosts of Asuras and desiring to slay Viśvarūpa, slowly ascended the sky.
Then there was an intense battle between the Asuras and Viṣṇu.
The Asuras, being struck, tore apart Rahu’s head.
Then the Daityas were shattered by Viṣṇu with his discus.
With eyes inflamed by anger, he struck Viṣṇu with his trident.
With his left hand, he playfully struck that mighty asura Kālanemi.
Having fallen, he rose again, slowly opening his eyes.
Regaining consciousness, the mighty Kālanemi spoke these words:
Those asuras who are slain in battle attain an imperishable world.
They enjoy various pleasures and roam about like the gods.
Therefore, I do not desire death in battle, which is fleeting; O Lord, you should grant me only the supreme liberation.
‘So be it,’ said the foremost of the daityas, and was struck down by the Supreme Person, the giver of the highest truth.
The daitya Kālanemi was slain, and the gods became free from fear.
The Lord, lotus-eyed, at once became invisible.
Those who had fallen, those rendered impotent, those broken and terrified in heart—
Indra, insurmountable, became devoted to the science of polity.
Thus, as the asuras were being destroyed by the lord of Śacī—
And those heroic asuras who were slain in the field of battle—
Those who, filled with arrogance, kill the fearful and those who have surrendered—
Therefore, you must not commit violence, not even in thought.
Accompanied by the army of the gods, he at once reached heaven; all the yakṣas, gandharvas, and kinnaras rejoiced.
Then Indra was anointed in Amarāvatī by Śacī, with joy.
And likewise, by the foremost of the divine sages and by the foremost of the Brahmanical sages,
Then, O Brahmins, there arose a great festival in the realm of the gods; likewise, trumpets and drums resounded together.
And the singers, Gandharvas, Kinnaras, and hosts of Apsaras,
Thus, at that time, Śakra, the lord of the gods, attained victory.
These great-souled ones, headed by Bali, have departed from life.
He went, surrounded by his disciples, and thus does not know of that battle.
Thus has been told the great and steadfast destruction of the Asuras.
Having been surrounded by his disciples, he even revived those dead Asuras.
