परिघायुधिनः पाशशूलमुद्गरपाणयः १३.
Armed with iron clubs, holding nooses, spears, and maces in their hands.
हयनागरथाश्चान्ये समारूढाः प्रहारिणः १३.
Others mounted horses, elephants, and chariots, ready to strike.
स्पर्द्धमानास्ततान्योन्यं गर्जंतश्च मुहुर्मुहुः १३.
Competing with one another, they roared again and again.
त्वया कृतं महाबाहो इंद्रेण सह संगमम् १३.
O mighty-armed one, you engaged in battle with Indra.
ऊनेनापि हि तुच्छेन वैरिणापि कथंचन १३.
Even with a weak or insignificant enemy, in any way,
न विश्वसेत्पूर्वविरोधिना क्वचित्पराजिताः स्मोऽथ बले त्वयाधुना १३.
One should never trust a former adversary; we have been defeated, but now you possess the strength.
इत्यूचुस्ते दुराधर्षा योद्धुकामा व्यवस्थिताः १३.
Thus spoke those difficult to subdue, who stood ready, eager to fight.
चामरैश्च दिशः सर्वा लोपितं च रणस्थलम् १३.
With yak-tail fans, all directions were obscured, and the battlefield was hidden.
पीत्वामृतं महाभागा वाहान्यारुह्य दंशिताः सूर्यश्चोच्चैः श्रवारूढो मृगा रूढश्च चन्द्रमाः॥ १३.
Having drunk nectar, the blessed ones mounted their vehicles, adorned; the sun rode the high Śrava, and the moon mounted a deer.
छत्रचामरसंवीताः शोभिता विजयश्रिया १३.
Clad with umbrellas and yak-tail fans, they shone with the glory of victory.
ते विष्णुना ह्यनुज्ञाता असुरान्प्रति वै रुषा १३.
Permitted by Vishnu, they advanced in anger against the asuras.
तेषां बोरमभूद्युद्धं देवानां दानवैः सह १३.
A great battle arose between them, the gods and the demons.
शरधारान्वितं सर्वं बभूव परमाद्भुतम् १३.
Everything became filled with streams of arrows, and it was most wondrous.
ततो निमिषमात्रेण शरघातयुता भवन् १३.
Then, in the blink of an eye, they became covered with showers of arrows.
विध्यमानास्तथा केचिद्विविधुश्चापरान्रणे १३.
Some were being slain, and others were being wounded in various ways on the battlefield.
क्षुरप्रहारिताः केचिद्दैत्या दानवराक्षसाः १३.
Some Daityas, Danavas, and Rakshasas were struck down by razor-sharp weapons.
एवं भग्नं दानवानां च सैन्यं दृष्ट्वा देवा गर्जमानाः समंतात् १३.
Seeing the army of the Danavas thus broken, the gods roared on all sides.
शंखवादित्रघोषेण पूरितं च जगत्त्रयम् १३.
The sound of conches and musical instruments filled the three worlds.
बलिप्रभृतयः सर्वे संभ्रमेणोत्थिताः पुनः १३.
All the leaders, including Bali, rose up again in confusion.
द्वंद्वयुद्धं सुतुमुलं देवानां दानवैः सह १३.
A fierce duel broke out between the gods and the Danavas.
बलिना दानवेंद्रेण महेंद्रो युयुधे तदा १३.
At that time, Indra fought with Bali, the lord of the Danavas.
नैर्ऋतः प्रघसेनैव पाशी कुंभेन संगतः १३.
Nairrita fought with Praghasa, and the noose-bearer with Kumbha.
सोमेन सह राहुश्च युद्धं चक्रे सुदारुणम् संपर्कादमृस्यैव यथा राहुस्तथाऽभवत्॥ १३.
Rahu engaged in a most terrible battle with Soma; just as Rahu cannot tolerate contact with the moon, so it was.
तानि सर्वाणि दृष्टानि शंभुना परमेष्ठिना असुराणां सुराणां च सर्वेषामपि वल्लभः॥ १३.
All these events were witnessed by Shambhu, the supreme lord, beloved of both the gods and the asuras.
एवमुक्तस्तदा राहुः प्रणम्य शिरसा शिवम् १३.
Then Rahu, having been thus addressed, bowed his head to Shiva.
तेन तस्य हि जातानि शिरांसि सुबहून्यपि बबंध शंभुः शिरसि शिरोभूषणवत्कृतम्॥ १३.
From that, many heads arose for him, and Shambhu bound them on his own head like ornaments.
अशनात्कालकूटस्य नीलकंठोऽभवत्तदा १३.
By consuming the poison Kālakuṭa, he then became Nīlakaṇṭha, the blue-throated one.
दधार शिरसा तां च मुण्डमालां महेश्वरः॥ १३.
Maheshvara bore that garland of skulls upon his head.
तया स्रजाऽसौ शुशुभे महात्मा देवादिदेवस्त्रिपुरांतको हरः १३.
Adorned with that garland, the great-souled Hara, destroyer of Tripura and lord of the gods, shone brilliantly.
गंगा धृता येन शिरस्सुमध्ये चंद्रं च चूडे कृतवान्भयापहः १३.
He who held the Ganga upon his head and placed the moon in his crest, the remover of fear.
