क्रियतामसुराः श्रेष्ठाः शुभेच्छा किंचिदस्ति वः १२.
Let it be done, O best of Asuras; do you have any good desire?
न्यायोपार्जितवित्तेन दशमांशेन धीमता १२.
With wealth acquired justly, the wise should give a tenth portion.
तथेति मत्वा ते सर्वे यथोक्तं देवमायया १२.
Thinking 'So be it,' all of them acted as the goddess had instructed.
मयासुरेण च तदा भवनानि कृतानि वै १२.
Then, by me, the Asura, residences were indeed prepared.
तेषुपविष्टास्ते सर्वे सुस्नाताः समलंकृताः १२.
All of them, having bathed and adorned themselves, sat in those dwellings.
रात्रौ जागरणं सर्वैः कृतं परमया मुदा १२.
During the night, all kept vigil with the highest joy.
असुरा बलिमुख्याश्च पंक्तिभूता यताक्रमम् १२.
The chief Asuras, led by Bali, sat in rows in proper order.
बलिश्च वृषपर्वा च नमुचिः शंख एव च १२.
Bali, Vṛṣaparvan, Namuci, and also Śaṃkha,
वातापिरिल्वलः कुम्भो निकुम्भः प्रच्छदस्तथा १२.
Vātāpi, Ilvala, Kumbha, Nikumbha, and also Pracchada,
महिषो महिषाक्षश्च बिडालाक्षः प्रतापवान् १२.
Mahiṣa, Mahiṣākṣa, and the mighty Biḍālākṣa.
विबाहुर्बाहुको घोरस्तथा वै घोरदर्शनः यथाक्रमं चोपविष्टा राहुः केतुस्तथैव च॥ १२.
Vibāhu, Bāhuka, Ghora, and Ghoradarshana, as well as Rahu and Ketu, were all seated in order.
तेषां तु कोटिसंख्यानां दैत्यानां पंक्तिरास्थिता॥ १२.
A line was formed of those Daityas, whose number was in the tens of millions.
ततस्तया तदा देव्या अमृतार्थं हि वै द्विजाः १२.
Then, O twice-born ones, by that goddess, all were summoned for the sake of the nectar.
सर्वे विज्ञापिताः सद्यो गृहीतकलशा तदा १२.
All of them were immediately informed and took up their pitchers at that time.
करस्थेन तदा देवी कलशेन विराजिता १२.
Then the goddess shone, holding the pitcher in her hand.
परिवेषधराः सर्वे सुरास्ते ह्यसुरांतिकम् १२.
All the gods, bearing serving vessels, approached near the Asuras.
तान्दृष्ट्वा मोहिनी सद्य उवाच प्रमदोत्तमा॥ १२.
Seeing them, Mohini, the foremost among women, at once spoke.
एते ह्यतिथयो ज्ञेया धर्म्मसर्वस्वसाधनाः प्रमाणं भवतां चाद्य कुरुध्वं मा विलंबथ॥ १२.
These should be regarded as guests, the means to all righteousness; let this be your standard today—do it without delay.
परेषामुपकारं च ये कुर्वंति स्वशक्तितः १२.
Those who act for the benefit of others, according to their own ability,
केवलात्मोदरार्थाय उद्योगं ये प्रकुर्वते १२.
And those who strive only for their own sustenance and gain,
तस्माद्विभजनं कार्यं मयैतस्य शुभव्रताः १२.
Therefore, O you of auspicious vows, the division of this should be done by me.
इत्युक्ते वचने देव्या तथा चक्रुरतं द्रिताः १२.
When the goddess spoke these words, they all promptly acted accordingly.
उपविष्टाश्च ते सर्वे अमृतार्थं च भो द्विजाः मोहिनी सर्वधर्म्मज्ञा असुराणां स्मयन्निव॥ १२.
All of them sat down for the sake of the nectar, O twice-born; Mohini, knowing all dharmas, smiled at the Asuras.
आदौ ह्यभ्यागताः पूज्या इति वै वैदिकी श्रुतिः॥ १२.
Indeed, the Vedic teaching is that those who arrive first are to be honored.
तस्माद्यूयं वेदपराः सर्वे देवपरायणाः अमृतं हि महाभागा बलिमुख्या वदंतु भोः॥ १२.
Therefore, you who are devoted to the Veda and to the gods, O most fortunate ones, let the foremost among the strong say who should receive the nectar.
बलिनोक्ता तदा देवी यत्ते मनसि रोचते १२.
Then Bali said to the goddess, 'Let whatever pleases your mind be done.'
एवं संमानिता तेन बलिना भावितात्मना १२.
Thus honored by Bali, whose mind was noble,
तस्मान्नरेन्द्रकरभोरुलसद्दृकूला श्रोणीतटालसगतिर्मविह्वलांगी १२.
Therefore, with thighs like the trunks of king elephants, with hips swaying, and with limbs unsteady, she moved along.
तदा तु देवी परिवेषयंती सा मोहिनी देवगणाय साक्षात् १२.
Then the goddess Mohini herself served the divine hosts directly.
पुनश्च ते देवगणाः सुधारसं दत्तं तया परया विश्वमूर्त्या १२.
Again, those hosts of gods received the nectar's essence from her, the supreme form of the universe.
