At that time, the singing of the singers became exceedingly great.
Thus, with various kinds of instrumental music, they praised Vishnu, the all-pervading Hari.
Likewise, Narada, Tumburu, and others, along with hosts of Gandharvas, Yakshas, gods, and Siddhas, sang.
Having bowed to the Supreme Self, Janardana, united with Rama (Lakshmi),
And from the ocean as it was being churned, he of great renown emerged.
With both hands, he firmly took hold of a full pitcher of nectar.
Then the Daityas, coming together, sought to seize it by force.
At that moment, surrounded by waves, the foremost physician was concealed.
The pitcher in his hand was snatched away from him by force.
Having taken the pitcher filled with nectar, they became eager.
Well-armed and desiring battle, they pursued him together.
But we, the gods, were satisfied only with the nectar.
With joy, we are established in heaven—what need have we now? This is known; there is no need for further deliberation.
Thus, the best of the gods were rebuked by that powerful one.
Seeing him, all the gods became disheartened in their hopes.
Do not be afraid here for this purpose; I will bring that nectar.
Having stationed all the gods right there, Madhusudana,
Meanwhile, the Daityas, greatly enraged, began to speak among themselves.
As this was happening, she assumed the form of Mohinī.
Filled with wonder, their thirsty eyes gazed upon her.
You must distribute the nectar to all, for the sake of their destiny.
Thus addressed, she replied to Bali with a smile.
Falsehood, violence, deceit, foolishness, and greed—
And also lack of affection and cunningness should be truly understood.
Just as among wild beasts, wolves are intent on violence, so too, among humans, women are always to be known as cunning by the wise.
How can friendship arise between you and me?
Therefore, you should carefully consider, being discerning about what is to be done and not done.
Now divide the nectar among all, justly and as is proper.
Thus addressed, then the goddess Mohinī, auspicious in every way—
All of you have attained your purpose by some divine means.
