मदिरा विजया भृंगी तथा लशुनगृंजनाः ११.
Wine, victory, Bhringi, as well as garlic and asafoetida,
स्थापिता नैकपद्येन तीरे नदनदीपतेः ११.
Were placed in various ways on the shore of the lord of rivers.
निर्मथ्यमानादुदधेस्तदासीत्सा दिव्य लक्ष्मीर्भुवनैकनाथा ११.
From the ocean as it was being churned, then arose that divine Lakshmi, the sole mistress of the worlds.
ब्रह्मविद्यां केचिदाहुः समर्थाः केचित्सिद्धिमृद्धिमाज्ञा मथाशाम् ११.
Some say she is Brahmavidya; others, that she is success, prosperity, command, or the fulfillment of wishes.
वदंति सर्वे केनसिद्धांतयुक्तां यां योगमायां ज्ञानशक्त्यान्विता ये॥ ११.
All declare her to be endowed with perfection, joined with yoga-maya, and possessed of the power of knowledge.
ददृशुस्तां महालक्ष्मीमायांती शनकैस्तदा ११.
Then, they beheld that great Lakshmi, appearing gradually.
सुस्मितां सुद्विजां श्यामां नवयौवनभूषणाम् ११.
She was smiling sweetly, of excellent lineage, dark-complexioned, and adorned with the freshness of youth.
बिंबोष्ठीं सुनसां तन्वीं सुग्रीवां चारुलोचनाम् ११.
Her lips were red as bimba fruit, her nose was fine, her form slender, her neck graceful, and her eyes beautiful.
नानारत्नप्रदीपैश्च नीराजितमुखांबुजाम् ११.
Her lotus-like face was illuminated by lamps made of various jewels.
मूर्द्धनि ध्रियमाणेन च्छत्रेणापि विराजिताम् ११.
She shone with a parasol held above her head.
पांडुरं गजमारूढां स्तूयमानां महर्षिभिः ११.
Mounted on a pale elephant, she was praised by great sages.
कराग्रे ध्रियमाणां तां दृष्ट्वा देवाः समुत्सुकाः ११.
Seeing her holding the elephant goad in her hand, the gods became eager.
देवांश्च दानवांश्चैव सिद्धचारणपन्नगान् ११.
The gods, the demons, as well as the Siddhas, Charanas, and Nagas,
आलोकितास्तथा देवास्तया लक्ष्म्या श्रियान्विताः दैत्यास्ते निःश्रिका जाता ये श्रियाऽनवलोकिताः॥ ११.
were all gazed upon by that Lakshmi, endowed with splendor; those whom she did not look upon became deprived of prosperity.
निरीक्ष्यमाणा च तदा मुकुन्दं तमालनीलं सुकपोलनासम् ११.
Then, as she looked upon Mukunda, dark as a tamala tree, with beautiful cheeks and nose,
दृष्ट्वा तदैव सहसा वनमालयान्विता लक्ष्मीर्गजादवततार सुविस्मयंती ११.
at that very moment, seeing him adorned with a garland of forest flowers, Lakshmi, filled with wonder, descended from the elephant.
वामांगमाश्रित्य तदा महात्मनः सोपाविशत्तत्र समीक्ष्य ता उभौ ११.
Then, approaching the left side of that great soul, she sat there, as all beheld them both.
सर्वेषामेव लोकानामैकपद्येन सर्वशः ११.
Thus, in perfect unity, before all the worlds.
लक्ष्म्या वृतो महाविष्णुर्लक्ष्मीस्तेनैव संवृता ११.
Maha-Vishnu was joined by Lakshmi, and Lakshmi was embraced by him.
शंखाश्च पटहाश्चैव मृदंगानकगोमुखाः ११.
Conch shells, drums, mridangas, and gomukha instruments sounded forth.
बभूव गायकानां च गायनं सुमहत्तदा ११.
At that time, the singing of the singers became exceedingly great.
एवं वाद्यप्रभेदैश्च विष्णुं सर्वात्मना हरिम् ११.
Thus, with various kinds of instrumental music, they praised Vishnu, the all-pervading Hari.
तथा जगुर्नारदतुंबुरादयो गंधर्वयक्षाः सुरसिद्ध संघाः ११.
Likewise, Narada, Tumburu, and others, along with hosts of Gandharvas, Yakshas, gods, and Siddhas, sang.
प्रणम्य परमात्मानं रमायुक्तं जनार्द्दनम् १२.
Having bowed to the Supreme Self, Janardana, united with Rama (Lakshmi),
उदधेर्मथ्यमानाच्च निर्गतः सुमहायशाः १२.
And from the ocean as it was being churned, he of great renown emerged.
पाणिभ्यां पूर्णकलशं सुधायाः परिगृह्य वै १२.
With both hands, he firmly took hold of a full pitcher of nectar.
तदा दैत्याः समं गत्वा हर्तुकामा बलादिव १२.
Then the Daityas, coming together, sought to seize it by force.
यावत्तरंगमालाभिरावृतोऽभूद्भिषक्तमः १२.
At that moment, surrounded by waves, the foremost physician was concealed.
करस्थः कलशस्तस्य हृतस्तेन बलादिव १२.
The pitcher in his hand was snatched away from him by force.
कलशं सुधया पूर्णं गृहीत्वा ते समुत्सुकाः १२.
Having taken the pitcher filled with nectar, they became eager.
