तस्माच्चंद्रबलं श्रेष्ठं भवतां कार्यसिद्धये ११.
Therefore, the best strength from the moon is for your accomplishment.
एवमाश्वासिता देवा गर्गेणैव महात्मना ११.
Thus the gods were reassured by the great-souled Garga.
द्विगुणं बलमापन्ना महात्मानो दृढव्रताः ११.
Those great souls, firm in their vows, gained double the strength.
निर्मथ्यमानादुदधेर्गर्जमानाच्च सर्वशः ११.
From the churning of the ocean, and from its constant roaring,
तुष्टा कपिलवर्णां सा ऊधोभारेण भूयसा ११.
She, satisfied, with a Kapila hue, bore a great udder.
कामधेनुं समायांतीं दृष्ट्वा सर्वे सुरासुराः ११.
Seeing Kamadhenu approaching, all the gods and asuras beheld her.
तदा तूर्याण्यनेकानि नेदुर्वाद्यान्यनेकशः ११.
Then many kinds of drums and instruments resounded in various ways.
तासु नीलाश्च कृष्णश्च कपिलाश्च कपिंजलाः आभिर्युक्ता तदा गोभिः सुरभिः प्रत्यदृश्यत॥ ११.
Among them were blue, black, Kapila, and Kapingala cows; Surabhi was seen attended by these cows.
असुरासुरसंवीतां कामधेनुं ययाचिरे ११.
The Asuras, together with the Asura women, requested the wish-fulfilling cow.
सर्वेभ्यश्चैव विप्रेभ्यो नानागोत्रेभ्य एव च ११.
And from all the Brahmins, belonging to various lineages as well.
तैर्याचितास्तेऽत्र सुरासुराश्च ददुश्च ता गाः शिवतोषणाय ११.
Requested by them, the gods and Asuras there gave those cows for the satisfaction of Shiva.
पुण्याहं मुनिभिः सर्वैः कारितास्ते तदा सुराः ११.
Then, all the gods performed the auspicious rite with all the sages.
पुनः सर्वे सुसंरब्धा ममंथुः क्षीरसागरम् ११.
Again, all of them, highly excited, churned the Ocean of Milk.
कल्पवृक्षः पारिजातश्चूतः संतानकस्तथा ममंथुरुग्रं त्वरिताः पुनः क्षीरार्णवं बुधा॥ ११.
The wish-fulfilling tree, the Parijata, the mango, and the Santanaka—these, eager and intense, the wise churned again from the ocean of milk.
निर्मथ्यमानादुदधेरभवत्सूर्यवर्चसम् ११.
From the ocean, as it was being churned, arose something radiant as the sun.
स्वकीयेन प्रकाशेन भासयंतं जगत्त्रयम् ११.
With its own brilliance, it illuminated the three worlds.
सर्वे सुरा ददुस्तं वै कौस्तुभं विष्णवे तदा ममंथुः पुनरेवाब्धिं गर्जंतस्ते बलोत्कटाः॥ ११.
All the gods then gave that Kaustubha gem to Vishnu, and again those mighty ones churned the ocean, roaring.
मथ्यमानात्ततस्तस्मादुच्चैःश्रवाः समद्भुतम् ११.
Then, from that churning, Ucchaihshravas, the wondrous horse, arose.
तथैव गजरत्नं च चतुःषष्ट्या समन्वितम् ११.
Likewise, the elephant-jewel, endowed with sixty-four qualities.
तान्सर्वान्मध्यतः कृत्वा पुनश्चैव ममंथिरे ११.
Taking all of them aside, they churned once more.
मदिरा विजया भृंगी तथा लशुनगृंजनाः ११.
Wine, victory, Bhringi, as well as garlic and asafoetida,
स्थापिता नैकपद्येन तीरे नदनदीपतेः ११.

निर्मथ्यमानादुदधेस्तदासीत्सा दिव्य लक्ष्मीर्भुवनैकनाथा ११.
From the ocean as it was being churned, then arose that divine Lakshmi, the sole mistress of the worlds.
ब्रह्मविद्यां केचिदाहुः समर्थाः केचित्सिद्धिमृद्धिमाज्ञा मथाशाम् ११.
Some say she is Brahmavidya; others, that she is success, prosperity, command, or the fulfillment of wishes.
वदंति सर्वे केनसिद्धांतयुक्तां यां योगमायां ज्ञानशक्त्यान्विता ये॥ ११.
All declare her to be endowed with perfection, joined with yoga-maya, and possessed of the power of knowledge.
ददृशुस्तां महालक्ष्मीमायांती शनकैस्तदा ११.
Then, they beheld that great Lakshmi, appearing gradually.
सुस्मितां सुद्विजां श्यामां नवयौवनभूषणाम् ११.
She was smiling sweetly, of excellent lineage, dark-complexioned, and adorned with the freshness of youth.
बिंबोष्ठीं सुनसां तन्वीं सुग्रीवां चारुलोचनाम् ११.
Her lips were red as bimba fruit, her nose was fine, her form slender, her neck graceful, and her eyes beautiful.
नानारत्नप्रदीपैश्च नीराजितमुखांबुजाम् ११.
Her lotus-like face was illuminated by lamps made of various jewels.
मूर्द्धनि ध्रियमाणेन च्छत्रेणापि विराजिताम् ११.
She shone with a parasol held above her head.
