Gather together all the gods with you, quickly and without delay.
Saying 'So be it,' all the guardians of the worlds, beginning with Indra, went there, and having arrived and sat down, they all began to praise Hari.
O God of gods, Lord of the universe, honored by gods and demons alike,
You are the sacrifice, you are of the form of sacrifice, you are composed of sacrifice, O Lord of Lakshmi,
Today, because of disrespect toward his teacher, Indra has lost his kingdom.
When everything perishes due to ignorance of what is right and wrong, what is surprising in that? And those who insult their parents, for them there is doubt about their fate.
O Brahmin, whatever was done by him, its result has come immediately.
When the time turns adverse for a person, then such things happen.
Therefore, O Indra, for this reason, follow my instruction.
Thus, instructed by the Blessed Lord, Shakra, who is supremely wise,
Hearing that Indra had arrived, Indrasena became filled with anger.
Then, by Narada, the Daityas and Bali, the foremost among the strong,
By the words of that sage, Bali then abandoned his anger.
He was seen by Indrasena, surrounded by the guardians of the worlds.
"Why have you come here, Shakra? Tell me the reason for coming to Sutala." Hearing these words, he replied with a smile.
"We are all descendants of Kashyapa, and so are all of you.
My kingdom was taken away in a moment by fate, and yours was gained by your effort in that very moment.
Therefore, a wise person should reflect carefully.
But, alas, what is the use of my saying this? I know, and yet not in your presence.
Hearing these words of Shakra, the best among those skilled in speech,
O Lord of the gods, you have come—yet I do not know for what purpose.
Hearing these words, Śakra’s eyes filled with tears and his expression became troubled.
Bali, do you not know how to discern what should and should not be done?
One who seeks refuge, a brāhmaṇa, the sick, and the elderly—
By the word ‘one who seeks refuge,’ it is meant that he has come into your presence; thus was the lord of the Daityas addressed by Nārada at that time.
Having carefully considered, with the highest wisdom, the discernment of right and wrong, together with the guardians of the worlds and the hosts of gods—
For the sake of assurance, indeed, many vows and observances were undertaken.
Thus, having made this agreement, Śakra, intent on his own purpose—
While Śatakratu was residing there in Sutala, he kept recalling Viṣṇu’s words and reflecting on them again and again.
Once, as the king of the gods himself was seated in the midst of the assembly—
