By the immediate dispelling of illusion, the three qualities are indeed destroyed.
Therefore, worship of the linga should be performed by all embodied beings.
Formerly, you asked me how Shiva became manifest in the form of the linga.
How did Shiva, the great lord of the worlds, consume the poison?
Once, the king of the gods himself sat in the midst of the assembly.
He was surrounded by groups of apsarases and attended by gandharvas.
At that time, the wise preceptor of the gods, surrounded by his disciples,
Seeing him suddenly, the assembled gods bowed down.
No one spoke a word; the ill-advised words did not proceed in their presence.
Then, knowing Shakra to be intoxicated and misguided by the pride of sovereignty,
When the preceptor of the gods departed, the gods became dispirited.
When Hari regained consciousness in the Gandharva's abode, he addressed the gods.
Then and there, Shakra, the lord of the gods, was told by Narada.
O destroyer of enemies, because of disrespect toward the preceptor, your kingdom is lost.
Hearing these words of the great sage Nārada, Indra quickly and attentively went to his teacher’s house.
First bowing respectfully, he asked Tārā, 'Where has the great ascetic gone?'
Then, filled with anxiety, Indra returned to his own house.
All manner of suffering befell the great-souled Indra.
Surrounded by the demons, he departed from Amarāvatī and went to the netherworld.
The gods were defeated by the demons, and Indra’s kingdom was taken from him at that very moment.
With all their efforts, they were swiftly taken to the netherworld.
Thus, Indra was left without a kingdom, abandoned by the gods, and greatly distressed.
The great elephant Airāvata and the horse Uccaiḥśravā were also suddenly taken by the greedy, wicked-natured demons.
Those very bearers of merit also fell into the ocean.
Having conquered the gods, we brought back many such things.
Hearing those words of Bali, Uśanas replied to him: 'There is no doubt for one who is consecrated; therefore, he alone should enjoy it.'
Without the Aśvamedha sacrifice, heaven cannot be enjoyed at all.
Hearing his teacher’s command, Bali then became silent.
Indra, too, having come to a pitiable state, went to Brahmā.
Hearing Indra’s words, Brahmā spoke.
