तस्य तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा शंकरस्य महात्मनः ७.
Hearing those words of the great-souled Śaṅkara—
विद्याधराः सुरगणा ऋषयश्च सर्वे त्रातास्त्वयाद्य सकलाजगदेकबंधो ७.
The Vidyādharas, hosts of gods, and all the sages—may you protect them all today, O sole friend of the universe.
प्रहस्य भगवन्विष्णुरुवाचेदं वचस्तदा ७.
Then, smiling, the blessed Viṣṇu spoke these words.
अद्यैव भयमुत्पन्नं लिंगादस्माच्चिरंतनम् ७.
Today, indeed, a long-standing fear has arisen from this liṅga.
अच्युतेनैवमुक्तास्ते देवा श्चिंतान्विताभवन् ७.
Thus addressed by Acyuta, the gods became filled with anxious thought.
एतल्लिंगं संवृणुष्व पूजनाय जनार्दन तथेति मत्वा बगवान्वीरभद्रोऽभ्यपूजयत्॥ ७.
Janardana said, 'Enclose this liṅga for worship.' Thinking 'So be it,' the blessed Vīrabhadra worshipped it.
ब्रह्मादिभः सुरगणैः सहितैस्तदानीं संपूजितः शिवविधानरतो महात्मा ७.
Then, together with Brahmā and the other hosts of gods, the great-souled one, devoted to the rites of Śiva, was worshipped.
लिंगस्यार्चनयुक्तोऽसौ वीरभद्रोऽभवत्तदा ७.
At that time, Vīrabhadra became engaged in the worship of the liṅga.
उद्भाति स्थितिमाप्नोति तथा विलयमेति च ७.
It arises, attains stability, and likewise dissolves.
ब्रह्माण्डागोलकैर्व्याप्तं तथा रुद्राक्षभूषितम् ७.
It is pervaded by cosmic eggs and adorned with Rudrākṣa beads.
तदा सर्वेऽथ विबुधा ऋषो वै महाप्रभाः ७.
Then all the shining sages and gods gathered together.
अणोरणीयांस्त्वं देव तथा त्वं महतो महान् ७.
O god, you are subtler than the subtle, and likewise, you are greater than the great.
तदानीमेव सर्वेण लिंगं च बहुशः कृतम् ७.
At that very time, many liṅgas were made by all.
अमरावत्यां सुप्रतिष्ठममरेश्वरसंज्ञकम् ७.
In Amarāvatī, the liṅga called Amareśvara was firmly established.
नैर्ऋतेश्वरं च नैर्ऋत्यां वायव्यां पावनेश्वरम् ७.
Nairṛteśvara was established in the southwest, and Pāvaneśvara in the northwest.
ओंकारं नर्मदायां च महाकालं तथैव च ७.
Oṃkāra was established on the Narmadā, and likewise Mahākāla.
त्रियम्बकं ब्रह्मगिरौ कलौ भद्रेश्वरं तथा ७.
Tryambaka was established on Brahmagiri, and in Kali age, also Bhadreśvara.
सौराष्ट्रे च तथा लिंगं सोमेश्वरमिति स्मृतम् कान्त्यामल्लालनाथं च सिंहनाथं च सिंगले॥ ७.
In Saurāṣṭra, the liṅga known as Someśvara was established, as well as Kāntyāmallālanātha and Siṃhanātha in Siṃgala.
विरूपाक्षं तथा लिंगं कोटिशङ्करमेव च ७.
Likewise, the liṅga called Virūpākṣa and also Koṭiśaṅkara were established.
भोगेश्वरं च पाताले हाटकेश्वरमेव च स्थापितानि तदा देवैर्विश्वोपकृतिहेतवे॥ ७.
Bhogeśvara was established in Pātāla, as well as Hāṭakeśvara; these were set up by the gods for the benefit of the universe.
लिंगेशैश्च तथा सर्वैः पूर्णमासीज्जगत्त्रयम् ७.३६ तत्र विंशतिसंस्कारास्तेषामष्टाधिकाभवन् ७.
By all these linga-lords, the three worlds became complete; there, their consecrations numbered twenty-eight.
संति रुद्रेण कथिताः शिवधर्मा सनातनाः ७.
There are eternal Śiva-dharmas, declared by Rudra.
गुरोर्जाताश्च गुरवो विख्याता भुवनत्रये ७.
And the teachers born from the Teacher became renowned throughout the three worlds.
तथा स्कन्दो हि भगवान्न्ये ते नामधारकाः ७.
In the same way, Skanda himself, O Blessed One, and others are bearers of those names.
शैलादेन महाभागा विचित्रा लिंगधारकाः ७.
By Śailāda, the highly fortunate ones, various and bearers of the liṅga, were produced.
लिंगेन सह पञ्चत्वं लिंगेन सह जीवितम् ७.
With the liṅga comes dissolution; with the liṅga comes life.
धर्मः पाशुपतः श्रेष्ठः स्कन्देन प्रतिपालितः॥ ७.
The supreme Pāśupata Dharma is protected by Skanda.
शुद्धापञ्चाक्षरीविद्याप्रासादी तदनन्तरम् ७.
Then, the pure five-syllabled mantra became manifest.
स्कन्दात्तत्समनुप्राप्तमगस्त्येन महात्मना ७.
That was received from Skanda by the great-souled Agastya.
किं तु वै बहुनोक्तेन श्वि इत्यक्षरद्वयम् ७.
But what is the use of saying much? The two syllables 'śvi'—
