Absorbed in play, the goddess, the great Sati, was seen there.
Where will this moon go? Ask quickly, O Vijaya.
He narrated everything about Daksha's sacrifice and related all that the moon had earnestly spoken.
The goddess, reflecting on the reason, wondered why she was not being invited.
Today, with firm resolve, I will ask Śaṅkara the reason.
There, in the midst of the assembly, they saw the Three-eyed One seated.

Bāṇa, Bhṛṅgi, Nandī, and the great ascetic Śailāda were present.
Dhūmrākṣa, Dhūmraketu, and likewise Dhūmrapāda were also there.
Some were fearsome and terrible, and others were headless spirits.
Hundreds like these, all clad in skins, were present.
All of them, with senses conquered, free from passion, and enemies of sense-objects, were seen by her seated on a most wondrous throne.
Her mind seized with agitation, she suddenly approached Śiva.

And those with beautiful brows who go uninvited to another's great house—

Thus was Satī addressed by the great-souled Maheśa.
For sacrifice is truly the truth in the world, and you are that, O Lord of the gods; I wish to know all of this, the nature of that wicked one.
Therefore, even today, I shall go to the sacrificial altar of my father.
