पाषंडवादसंयुक्ताः शिष्टऽऽचारबहिष्कृताः १.
You are associated with heretical doctrines, excluded from the conduct of the virtuous.
इति शप्तास्तदा तेन दक्षेण शिवकिंकराः १.
Thus, at that time, those attendants of Śiva were cursed by Dakṣa.
शप्ता वयं त्वया विप्र साधवः शिवकिंकराः १.
We, the virtuous attendants of Shiva, have been cursed by you, O Brahmin.
वेदवादरता यूयं नान्यदस्तीतिवादिनः १.
You are devoted to Vedic doctrine, asserting that nothing else exists.
वैदिकं च पुरस्कृत्य ब्राह्मणाः शूद्रयाजकाः १.
The Brahmins, upholding the Vedic tradition, will become priests for Shudras.
दक्ष केचिद्भविष्यन्ति ब्राह्मणा ब्रह्मराक्षसाः लोमश उवाच १.
O Daksha, some Brahmins will become Brahma-rakshasas—demonic spirits among Brahmins.
अथाकर्ण्येश्वरो वाक्यं नंदिनः प्रहसन्निव १.
Then, hearing Nandi's words, Ishvara smiled as if amused.
कोपं नार्हसि वै कर्तुं ब्राह्मणान्प्रति वै सदा १.
You should never be angry toward Brahmins.
वेदो मंत्रमयः साक्षात्तथा सूक्तमयो भृशम् १.
The Veda is, in truth, composed of mantras and rich in hymns.
तस्मान्नात्मविदो निन्द्या आत्मैवाहं न चेतरः १.
Therefore, those who know the Self are not to be condemned; I am the Self, not another.
प्रपंचरचनां हित्वा बुद्धो भव महामते १.
Abandoning the creation of the world, become awakened, O wise one.
एवं प्रबोधितस्तेन शंभुना परमेष्ठिना शिवेन सह संगम्य परमानंदसंप्लुतः॥ १.
Thus, having been awakened by Shambhu, the supreme lord, he joined with Shiva and was filled with supreme bliss.
दक्षोपि हि रुषाऽऽविष्टऋषिभिः परिवारितः १.
Daksha, overcome by anger and surrounded by sages, also became so.
श्रद्धां विहाय परमां शिवपूजकानां निंदापरः स हि बभूव नराधमश्च १.
Abandoning supreme faith, he became intent on reviling the worshippers of Shiva and turned into the lowest of men.
एकदा तु तदा तेन यज्ञः प्रारंभितो महान् २.
Then, at that time, he began a great sacrifice.
ऋषयो विविधास्तत्र वशिष्ठाद्याः समागताः २.
Various sages, beginning with Vashishta, assembled there.
दधीचो भगवान्व्यासो भरद्वाजोऽथ गौतमः २.
The venerable Dadhichi, Vyasa, Bharadvaja, and Gautama were also present.
तथा सर्वे सुरगणा लोकपालस्तथाऽपरे विद्याधराश्च गंधर्वाः किंनराप्सरसां गणाः॥ २.
Likewise, all the hosts of gods, the guardians of the worlds, and others—Vidyadharas, Gandharvas, Kinnaras, and groups of Apsaras—were there.
सप्तलोकात्समानीतो ब्रह्मा लोकपितामहः २.
Brahma, the grandsire of the worlds, was brought from the seven worlds.
देवेन्द्रो हि समानीत इंद्राण्या सह सुप्रभः २.
The radiant Indra was brought together with Indrani.
कुबेरः पुष्पकारूढो मृगाऽऽरूढोऽथ मारुतः २.
Kubera rode upon the Puṣpaka, and the Wind-god upon a deer.
एते सर्वे समायाता यज्ञवाटे द्विजन्मनः २.
All these twice-born ones assembled at the sacrificial ground.
भवनानि महार्हाणि सुप्रभाणि महांति च २.
The dwellings were splendid, radiant, and magnificent.
तेषु सर्वेषु धिष्ण्येषु यथाजोषं समास्थिताः॥ २.
In all those abodes, they each took their places as they wished.
वर्त्तमाने महायज्ञे तीर्थे कनखले तथा २.
While the great sacrifice was underway at the holy place Kanakhala,
दीक्षायुक्तस्तदा दक्षः कृतकौतुकमंगलः २.
At that time, Dakṣa, engaged in initiation, performed auspicious rites and festivities.
रेजे महत्त्वेन तदा सुहृद्भिः परितः सदा २.
Then, surrounded always by his friends, he shone with greatness.
एते सुरेशा ऋषयो महत्तराः सलोकपालाश्च समागतास्तव २.
These lords of the gods, the great seers, and the guardians of the worlds have all assembled for you.
येनैव सर्वाण्यपि मंगलानि जातानि शंसंति महाविपश्चितः २.
By whom all auspicious things are proclaimed to have arisen, O greatly wise one.
अमंगलान्येव च मंगलानि भवंति येनाधिकृतानि दक्ष २.
By whom even inauspicious things become auspicious when undertaken, O Dakṣa.
