Long ago, there was a sage here named Sanāru, a householder.
He was always devoted to worshipping the liṅga and constantly received holy waters.
Once, while he was in the forest, he was bitten there by a venomous snake.
Sanāru, gasping for breath, was carried away by Upajaṃghani.
There, a liṅga shaped like a coconut was well concealed.
What is the proper rite for one bitten by a snake?
Then the sage Sanāru, seeing Upajaṃghani,
wondered, 'What is the reason for preserving the life of my disciple Upajaṃghani here?
Thus, as he pondered with a mind intent on saving his life,
he brought him there, but he did not recover.
With his gentle palm, the sage dug into the earth.
With a sprout, that liṅga was worshipped there.
This liṅga in Ānandaka forest is called Amṛteśvara.
Having worshipped Amṛteśa, the sage received his son alive.
From that time onward, O lord of sages, that liṅga is known as Amṛteśa.
By the touch of Amṛteśvara, the dead come to life instantly.
