Then, seeing the discus approach, he remembered Śaṅkara; the Sudarśana, well-formed, appeared at the hero’s throat.
With that discus, the Lord of Hosts shone exceedingly.
Then, seeing Sudarśana as the ornament at his throat, Hari—
—the foe of Madhu, raised his hand, holding the Sanandaka weapon.
He rushed forward with speed, seizing a blazing spear.
The Lord of Hosts was restrained: 'Do not commit this rash act.'
Reaching Dakṣa, he roared loudly, 'Shame on you, blasphemer of the Lord! How can one who bears the name of Dakṣa act against the Lord, while claiming skill?
By your pure mouth, you have reviled Śiva.
Having spoken thus to Dakṣa, who uttered harsh words against Hara—
Then, as the great festival was joined by you and the foremost of the gods—
Some had their braided hair and staffs cut off in great anger.
The attendant also tore open the nostrils of others.
Whoever insulted the Lord of gods, and whoever listened at that time,
Some were hung up on the sacrificial post, tightly bound by the neck.
The king of Brahmins, Dharma, and the foremost among Bhrigu and Marichi,
These were his sons-in-law, for they were of Daksha, whose mind was wicked.
Those fire-pits, those sacrificial posts, those pillars, and that pavilion—
Those were the sacrificial implements, and those the initiators of the sacrifice.
In just a short time, as is the way of fate, all was destroyed by deception.
Hearing that it was done, the great god Maheśvara smiled.
In Kāśī, for the establishment of the liṅga, the virtuous performed rites here.
Having praised Śaṅkara with various hymns, seeing him pleased,
Hearing this sacred account of the origin of Dakṣeśvara,
By merely remembering him, great sins are destroyed.
At the beginning of this Varāha Kalpa, by the foremost sages,
Markandeya said: 'Hear, O sages, there are indeed hundreds of rivers.'
Among all the rivers, the best are those that flow to the ocean.
The Gaṅgā, Yamunā, Narmadā, and Sarasvatī—
The Ganga is the embodiment of the Rigveda, and Yamuna is certainly of the Yajurveda.
Ganga is the source of all rivers and the one who fills even the ocean.
